The quote of "you can't run a business on feelings" is said a lot at my shop. His book was a great read even though I grew up in the industry.

The whole thing could have been avoided if the police hadn't called their rotation company and left her call AAA in the first place. It apparently wasn't a road hazzard at that point. (I do not promote auto clubs just so everyone knows) However, I agree the bill itself was not overly expensive towing wise, and the storage was cheap. The invoice numbers with admin and other strange charges need to be broken down and explained by the owner of the business. Mine are clearly written down and signed yearly, so there is 0 confusion. You are very correct in saying that people have a very lax understanding of personal accountability anymore. They as the consumer should make some calls and get quotes if money/insurance is going to be an issue.

You have to see what Woodbridge Nj police departments does when you have an accident, they call a tow truck, then the tow truck company can not release the vehicle until the owner pays the town first, the town then takes their share out, then sends the tow company the balance, if an owner demands their vehicle be released before they pay the town, Woodbridge Nj police looks to arrest the tow company for violating their towing ordinance, is this not criminal behavior, tow truck companies never get a break, tow trucks provide a very important services to their communities, but get treated like garbage. so your story is nothing new. with the price of insurance and equiment, I don't know why anyone would want this abuse, and listen to complaints, that tows are so expensive, 170.000 for a two truck and 15.000 to 20.000 in insurance, it's a joke all around.
