Hi Jim, I finished the four-part series of you making the bow since this morning. Very interesting lot more involved than I thought. I remember my brother was in high school when he made a bow out of aluminum I was a youngin back then! God bless and take care buddy.

Just found you researching timber framing, but theres so so much more to learn here! Nevermind the patience to do the work, the patience to explain/teach is even more rare, so thank you! Ill be honest though, what drove me to say hi... the 20 mins i spent checking my detectors yesterday ;) take care, and ill definitely be hanging around.

Very interesting project Jim. I wasn't aware of all the idiosyncrasies involved in the making of a bow and the flight of an arrow. I was never taught any of this in my archery class, only how to shoot it.

Good morning Dana. It is very enjoyable and highly rewarding.

A small piece of soft leather worked back and forth over the waxed area warms and works the wax in. Sounds like it time to change the smoke alarm battery.

Good session. I'm watching in the middle of the night (fighting a little insomnia), so watching eight minutes of winding thread meets my mood and atmosphere, and is a treat! :-) Srsly, as one producer to another, that takes cajones, but good on you for including it.

Okay, between having to run to town for family obligations and my turn making dinner tonight, I'm all caught up now (with reading and commenting on the funnies section). Bow looks a bit cooked, but functional. Wax melt would be a bit cleaner and melt in better if you used a piece of clean leather to run/rub it in to the twisted twine/string. But it is shooting well and bending pretty even on the draw. You might want to have you brother-in-law measure your draw length again, the bend looked less than your measured 28 inch bend. Great job, friend. I'd shoot that bow in a heart beat.
@TheTradesmanChannel3 жыл бұрын
My draw length is actually around 29". The arrows are actually too long but does make aiming easier. I'm going to try the leather trick on the next one, we'll see how it goes.
@thomasarussellsr3 жыл бұрын
@@TheTradesmanChannel cool, let me know if the leather helped you. It always helped me. A light to medium wt. leather, fresh split, cow, buffalo, or deer hide works best for me, but horse hide will work too if split to a lighter weight.

Nice. Very nice. ..... Very nice indeed! Interesting stance you had there. Half way between a true recurve and a longbow stance. It may help if you angle your hand so the pressure goes on the web between your first finger and thumb. It allows a straight line of force from nock to tip. It suddenly hit me why you are gearing up for the hunt. ........ It's for those marauding canucks north of the river ;o) Now all you need is some good arrows (look up Tods Workshop to see an in depth look on different historic arrows, tips and what they are best for). I'm only saying that to get you forging some decent Bodkins or even a plate cutter or three ;o)
@TheTradesmanChannel3 жыл бұрын
I shot for years when I was a kid, many moons ago. This is the stance that always worked for me. The way I hold the bow actually does just what you say, works quite well.
