Neat job mate 👍.... I've found that flemish bond is more suited to radial /serpentine walling as the half bat between the stretchers allows you to navigate the radius better whilst also allowing the perps / cross joints to be more uniform in width.... 👍

I think you are a good bricky, a lot lot lot better than me and I enjoy your vids, I'm not trying to be a keyboard warrior here ...... the brick on edge wont last more than 3 to 5 years as it will suffer from flailing which is expansion of water in the brick during frost , lbc's are the worst for this, it's not text bs you can see many examples. I would waterproof them with the same clear solution used to inject a doc. Sorry to be so honest, it's great to see such craftsmanship...

1 . Why have you used a cheap common for a retaining wall ? Should be a stronger brick 2 . Why have you used a lightweight block at the back ? Should be heavy duty concrete 3 . Why no weeps holes ?
@pro-1goalkeepingtutorialch1653 жыл бұрын
Hi mate Long story had to put customers preferences before my ego and knowledge . The bricks are match to house ,i advised blue engineering to brick on edge but customer didn’t want . Weep holes wore inserted ,also the shrubbery is dry bush ,just soaks up so much moisture throughout the year . If you look we left 300mm between back of wall and earth and filled he with hard core Blocks on the back , don’t want to go into it too much but the previous builder turn the client over for 12 1/2 thousand pound and they literally run out of budget so we use what materials were there to help out , this is why we put 300 mil of hard-core between the Earth and block to help drain the water away to give the block more life. Well observed though mate 👌 Thinking about it now I should’ve really mentioned it on the video but I didn’t want to talk about the previous builder too much

Class mate, not enough good tradesmen round out way in Essex. I find it easier to peg a few batons along the trench, then get the laser level out and mark my footing height of off the laser line (usually measuring down off the laser line). Found it to be a bit quicker and more accurate than oppose to using a level. can get it to the mil if you’ve got ocd like me 😂😂 Lovely work though 👌🏻

Everyone can learn something new every day and that includes me and I have been a Bricklayer for 45 years now and I am saddened at the poor standard of most brickwork today. There is no such thing as perfection but, there no harm in trying to achieve 100%.

I have a question......well two actually and its a genuine question not a critisism; on the perp joints why do you only spread a tiny amount an the front face and the back, why leave a void in the middle and I know it isn't because the mortar fills the middle when you lay the brick because there is insufficient mortar to do that? And why are some laid frog up and some frog down?

Try not to comment on videos like this but I’ll make an exception this time , mainly because the video is initially based upon work being carried out to a poor standard , and this video is then supposed to show how to do it correctly . You couldn’t have used a worse brick for a garden wall . London bricks aren’t allowed to be used below dpc on a house because they rot and blow . To use them on a garden wall is a big mistake . The faces will start blowing off in no time . You could have got a match for the house by using London replica bricks . Same face but on a traditional clay perforated brick instead . Shame as fairly neat and tidy other than being a bit behind on half bond and the perps out a little .

Any decent brickie can build without profiles it just makes more sense to use profiles with brickwork and definitely stonework as its more efficient although I would never use a profile with blockwork as I can knock up blockwork as quick as anyone with a profile , but I never used a profile before until I came to work in England now use them all the time for brickwork but rarely do you see them used in Ireland and when I was at college in the early 1990's and on sites in Ireland never once seen a profile and you would have to drive about a bit to find men using them in Ireland nowadays but I do believe young ones learning are relying on profiles to much and could probably do with more experience building corners freehand👍
