Being a boss is infinitely tougher than than just showing up and working for 8 hours and going home. Highly skilled/driven self employed people like Charlie should be rewarded for their efforts.

Teaching people comes at a cost! Knowledge is power! The apprentices will be paid at a cost of what they will learn in experiance. Charlie should be making money from these kids 💯. They are gaining valuable knowledge/experience through his time and effort. Without them, he would make 25% more, at least. There is less thinking involved, 100% less hassle absoloutly zero fuck ups. Simple as!

Exactly, I much prefer to be employed and do as I'm told over running the whole show. So ofc I'd expect them to be paid more than me. Do bosses pay shit sometimes, ofc, but we can look for another job.

Yeah it's easy BEING a boss (if you have the chops.) But either way, BECOMING a boss is the hard part nepotism aside. No apologies should be given for those who worked through boot soles to get to where they are.

Hi Charlie hope your well and good! I’m 23 and I don’t think any one understands the passion I have for bricklaying. Been doing it since I was 16 and had to learn fast as I moved out of home at 16. I’ll tell you now I would work for free with you because the knowledge you have is priceless! I’ve asked before but please could I join you even if it’s for one day! I’m not a messer and always turn up and give my everything. I’d work 7 days if I could. I’ve learnt from an old boy who use to be foreman for heigh towers so I know what it takes. Really would appreciate just one day on the trowel with you ! Thanks hope to hear back

Totally agree Charlie. It’s 4.05am on a Saturday morning. And I’m awake! Thinking about what needs doing next week, I have 3 sites to manage at the moment and so to man manage and keep clients happy is a priority in my opinion to running a successful business. Keeping morale up in a business is so important. If the boss has a bad day because of X Y & Z then the workforce will have a bad day and it starts a domino effect.

Charlie hats off to you bro. People don’t realise how tough it is being a boss. I had my own business in a well know courier company. Stress got too much working 15 hour days when people phoned in sick etc. mrs wasn’t happy kids never saw me. Went back to being just myself and I’m earning nearly as much but without all the stress. Keep doing you bro 😎

i agree with everything you say mate. i work as a long term subby for a prestigious carpentry company in Brighton and my 'boss', although doing well, works 15hr days and is constantly stressed, with the phone ringing every 5 minutes. He loves to be on the tools but can barely put his pouch on before getting called away. hats off to ya, its a tough game.

I’m an apprentice for my dad and this is exactly what’s happening to him mate. The sacrifices they take to keep people in work and make things run smooth is unreal. Although that bloke you’re talking about may be a dick sometimes, maybe even a lot of the time, but he deserves nothing but respect and I’m sure he’s a very good man. I know this because from what you’re describing it reminds me a lot of my dad. Of course it’s completely different trades as my dad is a brickie and your “boss” as you said is a carpenter but it’s all the same bs at the end of the day just different trades. Your comment and this video from Charlie has opened my eyes a lot tbh and made me find some very deserved respect for my dad so I appreciate that. All the best mate!

Planning, preparation, organisation, team building, team hiring, team relations, customer relations. Some people have advertising or social media. Then on top of that you roll with the day to day punches. Pay your workers, pay their tax, pay their insurance, pay your insurance. Pay for any business related expenses, tools, transport etc etc. Plus we do the work on top of it all. These are the things joe blow forgets to consider before he starts assuming you make all the money. Keep it up Charlie. We love ya videos mate. One business owner to another. 🔥

Don’t listen to these jealous idiots, everything you said is true, and did you mention the tools you have buy, insurance, taxes plus picking people up and all the prep work at night for the next day, phone calls from supervisors etc. God forbid you make a decent living! I had similar problems with my crew and friends when I took on bigger jobs,I leased a new truck so I had two vehicles to carry all our gear and to pick up materials. I bought a house and it needed work so on shitty days I would give them work on my house, they bust me on how nice it was and I should be paying them more. You think they would be grateful. But they got mad because I met a beautiful girl who moved in with me and then they”oh you got because of the house we build for you” I’m a Mason/Carpenter/Sheetrocker/Tile setter etc I didn’t need them, they couldn’t do it themselves, didn’t have the skills, but people are jealous of what you have no matter how good you treat them.

Glad you said that stuff at the start @CharlieCollison - the haters in the comments are getting boring. You’re getting paid for what you do with pricework. People want to earn more, then do more. On top of working bloody hard, you’re training your people, paying them a wage, running a business and feeding your family in hard financial times. All while making videos that are great to watch. It’s not like you rock up in a Bentley for an hour every other day. You put the work in and carry the stress that comes with being the boss. Fair play to you.

I used to pay my labourers £20 a day above other builders (10 years ago) but my boys knew I wanted that much extra from them. I also would give em a £50 Birthday bonus if they managed to get to work the day after regardless of how much piss they had drunk. I used to pull around £45k annually NET but you are right, it ain't no buggers business.

Do you know what I’m glad i watched this video and I’m glad you made it. I’m only 4 mins in and it’s completely opened my eyes to the business side of things and how much you earn it makes a lot more sense to me now and you’re right it isn’t my business at the end of the day but you put it out there on KZbin for people to watch so and I’m interested so it’s kind of made to be my business because you let it 😂. I just don’t understand how you put 1000 bricks in a wall and 200 blocks on a decent day, in your words. I feel like this must be absolutely perfect condition working and obviously is you being amazing at your job. It is very hard to believe mate and I think you understand that but you do sometimes paint an unrealistic picture for people to what it’s actually like. Like for example that video where you’re as teaching those beginners the basics of the trowel and laying. You told them a good brickie puts in a thousand bricks and makes 70p to a pound a brick. Realistically that never happens and will be very rare. You made out they would make up to a grand that day just like that but as you said in this video yourself it ain’t all that smooth sailing. I love what you’re doing promoting the trade and everything but with your platform I think you need to watch what you’re saying a bit because it’s painting an unrealistic picture of those who are just beginning and making big life choice on what they want to do for a living. You’re doing amazing work tho mate and I respect It all non the less. I’d love to meet you in person one time and actually put in a graft with you on site to experience what you actually do and learn from easily one of the best brickies about to my knowledge. It would also just be cool af and astounding to watch someone put 1000 brick in a wall in a day because doing domestic work myself I’ll be lucky to see or lay myself one brick a lot of days. Keep it up mate and I wish you the best with what you’re doing!

Who gives a shit what he earns, any profits he takes per day come from his expertise and experience in managing the work & being efficient. The standard of his work is outstanding so if in a day he can take home £700+ good for him. I find it mental that he’s even had to put this video up. Instead of complaining online or questioning someone’s ethics, get out there, build a business like he has and work as hard as he does, and you’ll see that you too could earn what he does. You just gotta have some passion like Charlie does! People who work for themselves and do well are cut from different cloth from regular folk. It takes a lot to be a boss, I lived with mine for over 7 years and he barely ever stopped thinking about work.

I agree with everything you say Charlie I worked for myself for years in my younger days I am not a brickie, everyone thinks you’re a millionaire working for yourself you just get a bit of money together then some twat is ready to take it off you.

Your right mate, it's no one's business. How much you earn has nothing to do with anyone else
