AFLs are supposed to be faster even including dumpster emptying time every so many residential carts. However, in real world use AFLs seem as fast as ASLs like pythons. Besides supposedly faster operation, AFLs are cheaper to purchase and maintain. New ASLs cost approximately $250,000 ish and about $2,500 per month to maintain. New AFLs are just barely cheaper by about $1,000 and cost about $1,500 to $2,000 per month to maintain. Other AFL pros include the AFL attachment can easily be removed in minutes making for easy replacement if broken down or truck switching from residential to commercial. However, how often do AFL actually switch from residential to commercial in day to day use? AFLs can act as bulk collection and automatic collection at the same time as most ASLs aren't low enough for manual loading. An AFL eliminates the need for a bulk truck to supplement the automatic collection service. It seems like a no brainer to use AFL yet most companies still use ASL. A good example is this video. Most trucks down there were AFLs. Now when it comes time to replace AFLs Republic Services is replacing them with ASLs. Republic is standardizing it's fleet across the nation as they replace trucks. Opting to use ASLs as it's residential standard. Why is ASL chosen over AFL by most companies. Despite AFL being a cheaper and statistically superior automatic collection method?

People don't have a clue. Don't put the toters so close together. Don't put loose trash along side the toter. It will not be taken.

These trucks look pretty nice! Las Vegas has been buying this combo for automated collection. Glad they ditched them on ACX's for now. These trucks have also been popping up in several other parts of California. Republic probably wants to make these trucks a nationwide thing or something.
@TheTrashman976 жыл бұрын
I think the same, I think Republic is using that truck as their signature residential truck for their fleets.

How are things going out there in Vegas as far as Republic and their business.
@TheNVTrashMan6 жыл бұрын
Their going as always! They got a 10-12 year extension on their Las Vegas contract as it was due to expire in 2021 or something. Although several small haulers in the area like Western Elite wanted a chance at the contract. They and several other small companies pushed tons of petitions and spoke to the city council several times to try to convince the council to deny the contract extension with Republic and open it up for bid. They finally settled it in a council meeting where tons of small business owners and Republic employees/representatives gathered to see the result of the vote. Various people expressed their opinions and spoke about the pros/cons about opening up the contract for bid, but the vote was made and Republic got the extension. It was pretty interesting for a while to see how things were going to turn out. They also opened up a huge new MRF in North Las Vegas in late 2015, they claimed that their new 35 million dollar facility was the largest and smartest MRF in the U.S. from a single stream residential standpoint. They also offer tours by appointment and have a "learning center" in that MRF where they have several tv screens giving a look at the recycling process and have tons of educational material and even an Autocar cab where people can get a taste of what it is like to be in a trash truck. Haven't toured their though but maybe this summer or later in the year I'll go because I do want to see their new facility. They also automated all of the city of Las Vegas this year as they were the last municipality to have manual collection. And they've been buying the Pete ZRs of course, but the Red Republic Pythons are still going strong in Henderson, although Henderson did get 7 or 8 of those ZRs but I haven't seen them yet. I think they might start phasing out some Pythons by the end of this year but a ton of them haven't reached their ten year mark yet. But still going strong in Henderson currently.

Nice Nice, yeah I was out in Vegas visiting my Ex back in October and it came to mind of how everything was. Thinking about moving out there next year once I finish school and all, and If I can find a good "Big Boy" (Office Job) lol but that's all good. are they still running red trucks or are they just running blue now?
@TheNVTrashMan6 жыл бұрын
It's quite a mix, they still have a lot of red trucks, especially with the FLs and RLs. They also have a good amount of blue FLs and RLs. If you go to the Cheyenne yard you will see a lot of red trucks and a lot of blue trucks, especially with the ASLs. With Henderson, they have all the red ASLs and some blue ones, they also have a couple of blue FLs and some white and red RLs.

Now this is something I never thought Republic would buy for the San Diego/Chula Vista divison. I guess with Republic having one standard fleet of trucks make sense. Same with the carts none the less nice work and sharp looking rig. I wonder how the drivers prefer an ASL over a Curotto?

Nice catch! I should try to find these trucks the next time I go to San Diego. Does this mean the Volvo WXLL Curotto Cans are retired or now spares?
@TheTrashman976 жыл бұрын
I actually have no idea. These side loaders are definitely a question as far as if they're going to continue to go with the side loader because as far as the contract in Chula Vista states, that residents can put out as much recycling and yard waste out as they want and Republic will pick it up, which is perfect for the curottos since the driver and easily get in and out of the truck to collect the load.

Even though this is a brand new truck, why does it say "Operated by Allied Waste Systems" by where the arm comes out from the body? Great job on filming though!

Chicagoland Refuse Productions because that's what the yards name is that they are legally operating under and California law requires that to be on the truck

What Nate said. It is also how the contract is written. If a city contracts with Allied Waste Services. Unless the contract is renewed or Republic wins a new contract. The equipment must bare the name of the hauler that the city is contracted to. Some cities don’t care as much. Some are really strict about it. In Los Angeles County (La Canada - Flintridge) trucks must be branded Allied Waste with the Allied Waste logo. Which is why you see Republic trucks with Allied Waste logos slapped over the Republic logo

The highest numerical FL residential truck that I know of from the San Diego yard is 2359, and I found 2368, so I would guess they got approximately 9 trucks, unless that gap is full of more FLs IDK, we'll see in time.
