My mothers-in-law have a mini farm they bought before retirement. Part of my wife's mother's hobbies include gardening and canning the things they grow with various types of pickling and preserving. One of my favorites that she brings us a couple times per year is called "cowboy candy." It's basically candied jalapeños with a stout vinegar brine and several sweet herbs/peppers/onions. I know a lot of people aren't huge fans of jalapeños or things that are spicy, but there really are good. It's like having slightly spicy pickle that is doused in sugary sweetness.

I've lived in Texas my whole life and have never seen any of the things you tried. The spices tell me they are probably Tex-Mex and their construction leans heavily that they are more novelty or gimmick souvenirs. If you want true historically accurate, traditional Texas candy, you have to go to Fredericksburg. There, you will find old European craft handed down from generations of not just candy making, but the largest selection of locally crafted wines of remarkable flavors you've never considered. But the most favorite candy, is actually called a pie and once you have a correctly made PECAN PIE, you'll never want anything else for the rest of your life; it truly is the most incredible confectionery ever devised. Like your shows a lot. Your raw honesty is what makes it an interesting curiosity.

I was born in San Antonio Texas and raised there, most of these candies are made in San Antonio. For those Texans saying they never heard of it, that's crazy! Grew up on these, and they are delicious. I vividly remember everybody in school casually eating these in class. As I'm older they now make snow cones with these, chamoy is put on a rim of a beer with chili lime powder (the same stuff on the watermelon lolipop) it's so good.
@baldwinpatrickjon93016 ай бұрын
you may have had these in San Antonio, basically Northern Mexico, but the rest of Texas, including two major US cities have never seen, heard of, or tasted this stuff. So, please don't talk for the rest of Texas. Respectfully yours, Texas.
@savannahogrady6 ай бұрын
@@baldwinpatrickjon9301 respectfully I’ve lived in Galveston, Austin, Dallas, Houston, Abilene, etc. I’m able to find these kinds of shops and style of candy everywhere all around Texas. I currently live in Austin and they usually ask “Salt and lime or Chamoy and Tajin?” for your beer. There’s a snow cone place next to my house that has maganadas with all kinds of Mexican candies and it’s always super busy. I think you may just live in a less Mexican influenced city. I have Mexican family and friends all around me. Texas use to be Mexico and there is a huge Hispanic population here especially now with immigration being so lax. Saying Mexican influenced candy isn’t Texan is just wrong.

I lived in Texas for a couple of years when I was 17 to 18. I never encountered any of that stuff. I never even heard the word "chamoy". I looked it up on Google. Chamoy may range from a liquid to a paste consistency, and typically its flavor is salty, sweet, sour, and spiced with chilis." Sounds icky.
