I vaguely remember when I got this set, my dad bought it for me at the store, but had to go to a meeting or something like right away, so he took me with him and had me wait out in the lobby. Obviously, 8 year old me ripped that box to shreds and went to building and started playing around with it until my dad was out of the meeting. I have no idea why I wanted to share that.

The Toa Ignika itself? No, not really. But the Skyboard is really nice, and it comes with the Mask of Life, which is, you know, one of the main reasons the story exists, and nice looking besides. So I would.

Lore wise, the fact that the Ignika mask became a Toa after seeing Matoro sacrificing himself is just wholesome to me. Honestly I think this set looks great. Looking back I regret not getting this but oh well.

I actually like Ignika’s hunched, lanky appearance, because it reminds me of Matoro Mahri and in the lore the mask was inspired to take the form of a Toa because of Matoro’s sacrifice. Probably not intentional on the part of the designers, but I really love it about this set.

i remember picking up a Lego catalog right at the beginning of 2008 and looking at the new sets, thought they looks cool, than i saw for the first time a picture of Toa Ignika, and immidiatly started having flashbacks to the 2007 videos featuring the mask. i fell in love with this sets, i wanted this set so much. after i saved some money i went to every toy store in the area and no store had this set (one had him as a display in a big glass box with other sets from this year but didn't have him in stock) so i started to believe i won't have this set... until one day my grandmother came back from visiting my aunt in America and she told me she has a surprise for me (every time they visited my aunt in America they always brought me Bionicle sets so i already assume they'd bring me something like a toa or a makuta) and when she opened her suitcase it felt like light came out of it with the hallelujah song playing in the background, because she brought my Toa Ignika! i immidiatly ran home and started building it! it's still one of my favorite memories from Bionicle :)

4:25 I believe the reason that you have to put the axle in manually is so that if the axle breaks it can be replaced.

I got this this set for my birthday when I was about 6. I opened it, was too dumb to build the board, kind of built the figure, lost all the parts for the speeder, then eventually lost the figure. All the parts including the mask faded away and I only have one piece left: his keetorange torso.

I didn't think there was another set that had the unique color scheme that Oohnorak had - black and yellorange (which looks really cool on the Visorak). But, it turns out Toa Ignika sort-of has that color scheme, although with yellorange as the primary color and silver budding in. Huh.

It never occurred to me until just now how wide the masks/heads and upper body of the sets were from 2006-08. Some sets didn't have this issue; but Ignika has a big freaking head! Oddly, some '09 heads were really tiny. Looking at you Mata Nui, were you compensating for anything with your old body?

I had problems with the new mask design Ignika had. The size 2 red plus rod I had wore away VERY quickly and became loose. I also didn't like how his neck was forwards a bit, it looked awkward. Skyboard was awesome though, and this was one of the few '08 sets I picked up.

I think that the rationale for the separate axle on the mask may have been because the axles started to break. I say this because the same thing happens with Vahki staffs (the axle is the same on masks).

I’d say that the external axel pin in the mask was because it was originally intended to be used as armour as well, but it’s just a guess...

Only two big turn offs for me with this set: due to the Piraka build, Toa Ignika's head is hunched forward, so he doesn't stand upright. Also, his sword is pretty simple. Would've hoped for a weapon more creative, or maybe even the same sword as Jaller Mahri. But the color scheme is great, love the mask, love the vehicle.

I think the mask attaches like that because masks with built in axle connections tend to have a small hole on th other side. Almost every mask that has built in axle connecters has some mouth hole in it. Obviously, in official images of the mask design in comics, it doesn't look like that and with the hole it doesn't look appealing.

I always thought the point of open pin and axel holes was for doing combiners/MOC builds. Lego knows us well and that we like to get really creative with the sets. I hope Im not the only one that sees the purpose of extra pin and axel holes on the pieces.

+Menacing Threat I was lucky enough to find Ignika in, regardless of how absurd this may sound, a gas station of all places, or a very large gas station, store combo on my way to Carolina when I was younger and my family was moving, which also had 2 Umbras with horribly beaten boxes, and some series 1 EXO Force sets. Man, did I have fun with those sets, even if it was difficult building them in a moving van (as in a van that's moving, not a van designed for moves like Uhaul or something) with an Australian Shepard panting in my ear and drooling on my shoulder... I still to this day wish I got Titan Mata Nui instead of like 8 expensive Nerf guns that day, because there is no way in hell I'm paying 300 dollars for a stinking Bionicle set, one person was selling the gold Ignika for $900 alone.

now i am curious on how te story team collaborates with the set designers. does the story team pitch concepts hat the set designers flesh out or do the designers present "sketches" that the story team drafts bios for ? cuz here it sound slike the latter. the set designers knew they promised the legendary mask of life this wave but due to guidelines and other such stuff they know it can only be debuted in a figure, nd the story team cook up the backstory that this figure wearing the legendary mask was the mask itself constructing a body. this can also be why it is silver rather than gold. the designers cooked up too good a colorscheme to just scrap on a mere continuity gaffe so the story team turned a weakness into a sthrenth and wrote in story that the new silver mask was a ticking clock which added suspense to the plot. :D i ask this cuz i was looking t some bionicle prototypes and i noticed the prototype toa hewkii inika had Axonn's mask of truth rather than his final mask of accuracy so i wasn sure if the set designers cooked u new elements willy nilly and had the story team have it make sense in the plot or so.
