@@dutchiestudio I agree. This can't all be her fault. Plus, the hate towards her being the actress of her character would only add onto how much she might not want to stay in the role. The writers chose to make her character do and say those things, and the directors share a responsibility on set as well. Overtime we saw how much messier things got with Fox's X-Men till the end of Dark Phoenix. They weren't making things easier for anyone. I don't think it's that she stopped caring about the role. I think she just started to like it less. And that can have something to do with what goes on behind the scenes. (Considering what people mentioned happened there).

Sometimes multiple actors/actresses can play the same character in different movies/shows and both do it well. Lynda Carter and Gal Gadot will both be remembered as Wonder Woman. Eartha Kitt and Michelle Pfeiffer are Catwoman. There have been a few good Jokers (not Jared Leto). There is only 1 Mystique. Rebecca Romijn owns this role. Jennifer Lawrence looks like a fan doing a so-so cosplay of Mystique.

I just hate the fact that she became less 'Mystique' and more Jennifer Lawrence with each movie. The whole idea of her redesign in the first movie, with her being naked and covered in scales, was that she was fully embracing her mutant side. So, why would she feel the need to look human most of the time when she's with the rest of the X-men? And occasionally rocks her mutant look just to remind us that "oh yeah, this is Mystique and not Jennifer Lawerence painted blue." It did not seem like Jennifer was playing Mystique but it seemed like Mystique was playing Jennifer Lawerence. And sometimes it felt like she was not even giving it her best.

There’s a lot of space for her original morality in this video and for what she did in her early years and I like it, but I think that the cynicism and evilness she had in the original movies deserved a more relevant spot. After being experimented for who knows how long (this is what happened in the original timeline as demonstrated in Days of Future Past) I think it’s even more beautiful to see her while she strangles the interrogator in x-men the last stand or when she fights all those men in alkali lake in X2 United. I also love when she reveals herself in front of Senator Kelly in the first x-men and tells him “people like you are the reason I was afraid to go to school as a child” before putting him out with her feet on his face. Those were badass moments too, especially after knowing what led her to be like that. I love Mystique so much.
