Exactly the guy misses the whole point. First of all it’s not free. Google backs you into a corner and then you have to pay for it later. Also he doesn’t mention the value in the apple ecosystem. iCloud photo library etc. can improve but between theThe two options I think it’s better

Personally, I think it’s worth paying a small amount of money for your privacy than giving it up to save a buck or two per month. Our personal information is going to be a commodity in the future if not now. We just saw how much data Facebook has on everyone. Honestly, back up the phone every 3 months and delete photos of your dinner and the 4-15 selfies you shot before getting the right one and you’ll almost never run out of space.

"back up the phone every 3 months and delete photos" > This is exactly what I do. Apple positioned themselves perfectly to make an aircraft carrier of cash. Correction: There is a common misconception in this Video. All photos are compressed when uploading in high quality mode in Google photos, but photos of larger than 16 MP are both compressed and resized to 16 MP. This is why the Google Pixel 2 has 2 years of unlimited original quality uploads, despite the camera being less than or equal 16 MP. If you want to test it out, try uploading using the high res option and compare the MD5 or the file sizes. TL,DR: All photos uploaded via "high quality" to Google Photos are compressed, but photos larger than 16 MP are both compressed and resized to 16 MP. Use original quality to avoid compression and resizing.

Especially since they care so much about the 🌎 environment as well as Human Rights being protected however they choose to manufacture their products utilizing the cheapest - environmentally destructive , child loaded, cheapest labor forces in the world.... totally boggles my mind how Apple preaches their morals on so many of these topics and continue them yet their die hard clientele still worship them....

I have to agree I have so many photos I nearly took up all of my storage in my iPhone cuz if my pics and music i moved from my android. So I switch everything over to Google photos I recovered a lot of storage after deleting a lot of photos off the iPhone itself and I'm about to stop paying a monthly rate to Apple for storage because I have unlimited storage with my Google photos app. By the way I'm not new to Google photos I've always had Android phones, and I've never lost photos in Google photos or docs or music in Google Drive whenever I switch devices and I still have my information after switching over to Apple. I am a first time iPhone user so I was stoked to learn that I could download Google photos and Google Drive and bring my pictures, music and docs from my old Android to my iPhone and not have to worry about wasting any storage and pay money to Apple:)

If we have learned anything in recent years regarding Google it is that anything they give for free comes at a cost. And most of us can't possibly even fathom the real cost. You give them your personal information, likes/dislikes, photos, location, shopping habits... all of which they sell and share with God knows who. And in exchange, you receive a "free" service. I would never use them to store my personal photo library. With face recognition being as advanced as it is, you are essentially compromising the privacy of any friend or family member that is also in your photos. I don't mean to sound like a conspiracy nut. All of these uses and abuses by Google are well documented.

You’re correct that there’s no real difference in quality between high quality photos and original quality. But there’s a HUGE difference for video due to compression. I realized this after a hiking trip with a friend. We dumped our photos and videos into a shared album in Google Photos. I’m paying for original quality while he is not, and the resolution of his videos was horrid compared to mine when viewed on the same screen. And his iPhone was four generations ahead of mine! I like Google Photos over iPhoto because you can share albums with android friends. Also, iPhoto doesn’t allow you to view original quality videos unless you download them first.

iCloud storage for backups and photos is a blessing, not a "problem". You don't know how many times people have come to me over the years, after losing their precious photos, or wrecking their phones and losing all their contacts. And no, they never have a backup, or at least a current one. Oh yes, they backed up their photos THREE YEARS ago, one time, but nothing current or automatic. That's the genius of iCloud backups - they're automatic! So no, I'm not going to use a kludge with Google Photos, I'm using iCloud. In fact, I'm on the family plan, so all my devices, my wifes, my Mom's and my sisters ARE BACKED UP! Whew! Problem solved ;-) All that for just $3 a month for 200GB of storage for the family. A huge bargain!
@Miracollix6 жыл бұрын
you know thats exactly what google photos does ? backing up automatically nothing more
@canaksut3115 жыл бұрын
Them losing their precious data is because of THEIR fault of not backing up. When i have a working external drive and back up my files on that and really just dont need the icloud then it becomes a "problem" and you have to disable it so the notes app on your mac stops giving me buy icloud pop ups and really do what it suposed to do. Taking real notes!

It’s not that big of a deal because it’s cheap for more storage. I own three Apple devices, they advertise 5 GB storage with each device. If the devices communicate together on iCloud, only 5 GB of storage is actually available. So because I disagree with this bit of Apple logic which I consider a cheat, I found a work around. I used to download my photos into a pc occasionally. Now I use a SanDisk expand flash drive, a little snail of a flash drive. Quick back up from newer i-product . Later, quick to add to PC photo library. But I don’t feel the need to carry all of my photos with me. Some people do. And it makes me compile them in a way I can actually find them later. Thanks for your video. I keep looking for new ideas, but agree this one might not be secure enough for me.

If anyone knows differently please chime in.

Yup this is where apple is different from google. Apple is concern to not selling your data to anyone. It's main business is selling hardware + software. Last Year I got a message from Appleto say that my IOS needs an update to be able to view or whatever , I cannot remember the reason ! So , I updated it to the first 12.1 something from 10. something ! It has already updated itself from the previous 12. something and now it wants to update itself again , overnight ! It has been trying to do it for a couple of Nights but failed and informed me so but , what I an getting at is when I had to update the first time it then uploaded every Photo to icloud without my say or whatever ! I had no idea of that till it told me that I am nearing my capacity of icloud storage and I had No idea how to fix it to not upload ! Well , I found it in settings and disabled it but , it now tells me every time that I switch my ipad on that Icloud storage almost full at 4.8 GB from the free 5 GB that Apple give us ! A pain in the Rear , really ! We have an Apple Store about 28 Kilometres away and I am thinking to go there and ask for their Free help to fix it all ! Retrieve my Photos , etc ! I hate it when they tell one that “Go and purchase more Gigabytes” ! What the Hell for , I say to myself ! I have , in the past used a “Lightning” cord, connection to put my previous Photos from the ipad to a USB Stick maybe via my Computer , I cannot recall , too long ago ! I just want to know how one can retrieve these Icloud Photos and then Delete the thing ! Also , if I have or had a Password for the icloud storage , I have no idea of it and I have no idea if one needs a Password or PIN Number ? Cheers ! Oh , I guess You are in America ?

The 2nd day I bought the ipad pro Apple notified me my icloud account has less than 25% space left. I took a look and found out they backup everything, including web app caches like Google docs. It also suggested I could saved a few hundred megabytes of photos storage on my 256GB ipad by uploading them to icloud (5GB). Besides, icloud photo needs work, such as "hidden" vs "archive". There are other problems such as hiding information especially exif, information like aperature, shutter speed, iso, dimensions are completely censored.

I'm happy storing a few photos and backups on the same place and I don't trust Google anymore than Apple. I actually have less trust in Google than in Apple...for now. So, between 2 evils...I keep iCloud for now

Why didn’t you show us the remove from iPhone pop up that comes when you try to disable it?
@austinmcnair6126 жыл бұрын
The problem with Google Photos is that it's not actually free: you are paying for it with your private data. They use it for marketing, research, face recognition, "3rd party services," and essentially are making a huge profit off of your data which you agree to in their terms of service. Additionally, Apple's default photo format is PNG which has higher quality in colors than JPEG (a lossy format, meaning you lose quality for editing). This is why a 4mb photo in PNG turns into a 1.5mb JPEG in Google's "high quality" format, perhaps even less once they compress it. Apple is HEAVILY committed to protecting privacy. So much so that the FBI complains about it. One might ask, "why should I be concerned about privacy?" Watch the documentary about Snowden and the NSA. If you still don't care, more power to ya.

Thanks, lately it's very hard to download photos from icloud photo library. You can't just select certain photos and download. I guess I'll try google photos and see how it will work.

****Misleading, I will say you did a great job with the production of this video and overall quality of what we are seeing but your giving dangerous incorrect information. Please educate yourself with the benefits of both services before jumping out there with a video like this. Most people only care about photos so that’s why iCloud Photo Library was created. It doesn’t have a MP cap and you can upload not only the photos in your mobile device but all the high res photos from a SLR that your computer is holding. Your opinion is a great idea for people who aren’t lazy and have educated themselves on backing up their data but for most people who don’t understand how this all works your telling them to remove a service that keeps their data safe. Google photos is a great free service but it still cost money and your data isn’t secure. You’re also not telling people the bad things about the google photos application on iOS. If someone wants to upload all their photos to the app and delete them off their device, they cannot re-download that picture to their iOS device camera roll. Google photos removed this feature which defeats the purple of the application. Please remove this video or make a video strictly promoting google photos for iOS devices.

Damion Roberson honestly I🤬 hate google. And Twitter is following suit making these utterly ignorant feature removal decisions that just blow my mind across all of their apps.
@clayharris29076 жыл бұрын
You’re clearly uneducated yourself. “Google photos is a great free service but it still cost money” firstly, that doesn’t make sense. How can a free service cost money? Secondly, google photos doesn’t even cost money, if you want original quality it’s still free unless you hit your 15gb free quota.

Yeah, nah, I love my iCloud Photo Library. Why? Because it shares all my photos on all of my devices flawlessly and without extra apps that need to be upgraded and may, or may not, work flawlessly....more like not. So yeah, Apple gets richer if I pay for this service but I don’t care....I LOVE the service and will gladly pay them to keep innovating.

@WeTheDylan6 жыл бұрын
First off, this isn't even remotely new, iCloud library has existed for over 2 years so I'm already questioning your knowledge of apple products. Secondly, if you're integrated into the Apple ecosystem and have more than just an iPhone the $1 / mth makes much more sense, especially with apple's new compression file format for photos and videos. It's much easier to be able to use third party apps to edit the photos and have the edits be instantly available on other devices rather than having the Google app convert the photos to JPEG then have you download them individually onto your phone / computer to edit them then reupload them to the app. It kills the fluidity of the ecosystem, takes a step back and also gives Google access to all your photos and you could accidentally make your entire library public at the flip of a switch. To that you may say well hey didn't a bunch of people get their icloud photos hacked, yes they did but what they failed to make clear in the news of that was that it was done through phishing emails, fake emails sent to people asking for their password which they put in because they're dumb. Anyways you get my drift, if you have an iPhone you can afford the $1 a month to fuel the system and your life will be made much easier with your photos easily available to you all the time and all the time uploading rather than you having to download a photo to use it and then remember to check if the app is backing up your photos.

You Make A Good Plausible Point, But I Still Think Google Photos Is Better. But Of Course, That's Relative.

Old or new I found the info good to know, probably won’t change over to google but now I can make that call. And Btw Dylan, some people are new at this game, that’s why they’re watching the video, doesn’t make em dumb. You best watch something else.
@maninthecab6 жыл бұрын
To be fair to Dylan , his point is that iCloud wasn't hacked , people gave away their password ; however new you might be , surely people know that the only way to keep private things private is not to divulge passwords .

I know nothing about this stuff, but my photos take up so much storage on my phone. I do like the ability to not have to go to my computer to find old photos. What is the difference? Do you have a recommendation. So confused? I want more storage on my phone but don't want to delete them all is there a middle ground?

Good video ....but fatal flaw of Google photos is privacy! Google Photos gives google .... my photos... they already have everything else on me I don’t think they need all my photos too.... iCloud is $1 a month and doesn’t take my privacy. Google is notorious for being terrible with privacy. Apple is proven to be far safer!

What you call a downside, for many, including me, is a great feature. I get that it will eat up storage. But just as you chose to have an unlimited data cellular plan (me too, gotta have it), I choose to have enough storage to allow for my photo library to be automatically and seamlessly managed. I make a change on my iPhone, then it shows up with those changes on my iPad and MacBook Pro. No uploading/downloading/nuking duplicates, etc. So again, just as you could save $10/20/30 bucks a month with a more limited cell data plan, anyone could save $10 a month and explore third party options for cheaper storage. But just as you see value in unlimited data, I see value in paying $9.99/mo. for 1TB of storage and seamless management of what has become the most important feature in a smartphone: the camera and resulting photos. My two cents.
@maninthecab6 жыл бұрын
Exactly why I choose to use iCloud ; the tiny fee means no messing about to get phots or videos on all my device with no effort needed ; obviously everybody has their own preferences but to me it's real value .

Are you sure Google doesn't touch your pictures that are less than 16mp? I upload to Google photos and when set on high quality I always see the resolution is less than original (in MB)
@shadyendeavor6 жыл бұрын
Google recompresses all photos under 16MP, so they definitely are not untouched. The resolution is "supposed to be" the same, but well, this is a company that's making you the product.

Once Google releases an app for Mac which lets the photos available offline too like Photos App for Mac and also allows photos to sync from my iPhone without opening the app every time, I would love to shift to Google Photos...
@sergekills6 жыл бұрын
Yesss. Exactly. I don't mind $1 a month till I don't have to ALWAYS run an app to upload my latest photos. And the good thing about an iCloud is that it doesn't compress your photos or videos.
@seelensand6 жыл бұрын
You can do the offline part today. Just go to your google drive, enable show google photos folder in drive (this will make all the photos from google photos visible in google drive but without adding to google drive storage) and then use google backup & sync for google drive to keep a local copy on any Mac or windows pc. This works because you essentially have put your google photos into google drive (because of the first step) and science you are syncing your google drive it will also sync the Google Photos folder with all of its contents (that will be your photos). You can also add your local photos on your Maschine to the backup and choose high quality for photos and they will be uploaded to google photos.
