I really appreciate these types of videos. While module reviews are interesting, I find it just fuels FOMO and GAS. Where I struggle is understanding how to build interesting patches using reasonably standard-ish modules that are rhythmically interesting yet have variety so they don’t immediately become mindlessly repetitive. Any tips, tricks, nifty little patching approaches… how you think through a patch are incredibly helpful! Cheers!

I really appreciate the way you leave the jams running in realtime with all the decisions and humanity shown,. Really sweet tones as always and going back to basics is always a great exercise. Such a cool mono synth voice and for those scared of modular. Compact, clear and fat. Bravo!

Like it that you patch this one up from scratch, normally it can be hard to follow how you patched everything up! 👍

With your fx modules... do you think the tiptop echo would be easier to manage given its just for delays? And with the fx aid, do you keep just a few algos so you can keep track when using? And do you mess with any of the fx modules much when playing live or do you plan out what and when you use a fx?

Nice one Ali! And yeah, make videos on whatever jams / setups / modules / techniques etc you feel like man. Don't feel like you need to stick to any particular format (like focusing on a specific module). Fill yer boots.

are you using anything (offscreen?) to bring the Eurorack level back down to line level or is the Tangle Quartet already doing that? great video as usual btw
@TheUnperson Жыл бұрын
I think the tangle quartet tames the signal ~ after the modular it goes into the zoom L-12 interface :)

Is there a list of all the components, brands, etc so we can educate ourselves on each part starting with the power supply?

Yep there’s a link to the setup on modulargrid in the description.

What's your views on filter before VCA? I see you have chosen to put it after (which makes sense with a stereo VCF). I understand there are pros and cons either way. One con I heard re putting filter after VCA was that it can result in muddy sound. I'm relatively new to modular so open to all suggestions.
@TheUnperson9 ай бұрын
In this case I put it after because I wanted all 4 of the sound sources to go through the one filter. I’ve done other setups where I had a filter for each individual oscillator. But the joy of modular is that if you wanna try it before or after you just change a few cables ☺️

Clock out from the keystep into pams then you can really easily change bpm.

I wonder if you have had any experience with either the intellijel atlantis or the mother 32? I'm looking at both of these as my first modules but having a hard time choosing!
@TheUnperson Жыл бұрын
I actually haven't used either of those but they both seem very good. I don't want to make your decision even more difficult but have you considered the Taiga? Why have one oscillator when you can have 3! :D
@SomeOne-pd6vm Жыл бұрын
the mother 32 is lovely, i own two. but it is very limited by not having a full ADSR or second oscillator. if you plan to expand, keep in mind that an additional case is a lot of added cost.

Hi Ali - another ‘what if’ question for you: if you could only retain one multi-fx. would you choose the FxAid or the Z5000? Great video as usual 👌

Also, why build a modular mono synth? There's a lot you can do with the likes of a microfreak or malevolent. Speaking for myself, I've owned a few digital poly synths, one monosynth, a few grooveboxes, and eurorack, not to mention software. Each has its appeal, but it's not easy to articulate the differences.
@TheUnperson Жыл бұрын
You may wish to design a synth with a combination of your favourite oscillators, filters, and effects :)
