For people who have never gone to U Of T, you need to understand why students are complaining about profs giving them unearned Cs. It's because U of T employs a system where each professor is only allowed to give a small number of As, Bs Cs, etc. In each course or they get into trouble. So even if you studied for months and got a 94 on your final exam, you might be given a 85 for that exam because too many students got a 94 or better ( one of my professors told me this straight up in an email). It's a shitty system. I wish they just gave you the score you fucking earned.

i hate how arrogant some are. The students wouldn't criticise them for no reason - no one writes a review if they don't intend to help others pick the right professors. They should realise they aren't perfect and try to change not just ignore it.
@humanpotato176 жыл бұрын
a lot of students are just salty that they didn't get a good mark
@AnonyTests6 жыл бұрын
Let’s be honest, a lot of students don’t take college seriously. Even worse when they complain about the professor when it’s the student’s fault for not putting effort in his studies. Each professor is different and not all students will agree on one, so it’s pretty dumb to tell other students not to take a course by (someone) just because you find them annoying or whatever, it’s even more dumb for a student to listen to that criticism. Understand that if you want to share your experience with others about a specific a professor, it’s okay to say his teaching wasn’t working out for you (if that was the case). If the purpose of your review is to help the professor improve then please give reason to what you’re trying to criticize. Just saying “Worst class ever” does not clarify the problem at all, therefore the professor won’t know what’s wrong and will not improve in that matter, rather he or she will only feel bad and discouraged. Sure some professors aren’t good but frankly your success does not rely on them, so their behavior should not be any of your concerns. Separate work from your emotions and learn how to deal with people despite how different or difficult they are, that’s the real world, which eventually you will figure it out soon.

These reviews aren’t actually real reviews of anything that the professors can address, they’re just criticisms of either their personalities or just child like “they suck” rants. A real review says something like: professor is only available during 50% of their stated office hours, refuses to explain concepts in alternative ways, makes inappropriate comments during class (e.g. racist, sexist, etc), encourages oppressive practices by ... I think it’s hard to take childish remarks seriously and the reviews don’t help with stereotypes about millennials being entitled.
@kristinaF543 жыл бұрын
1:45 "Bah humbug!" is the response phrase Ebenezer Scrooge uses in Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol when anyone wishes him a happy Christmas, so either the reviewer meant the Prof is a miserable miser like Scrooge, or the reviewer is casting disdain on the Prof by imitating Scrooge's miserly nature. Either way, it's an insult not a compliment. Funny how the Prof was stumped at the meaning of it, like he isn't well read or culturally aware. Actually makes you wonder how he got a teaching job?!

If you're going to a school like UofT and expect easy A's across the board, then you'd be better off going somewhere else and lowering your expectations for a future career (although full disclaimer this is not always entirely true, but in many cases it is). They're meant to be challenging and you shouldn't expect to be perfect like you might have been in high school because most other students who attend them aren't. What they're meant to do is to prepare you to perform at a high level in a demanding, high pressure work environment with a career that will pay you well. Provided you can survive a school like UofT, you will find that in any career, the work you do there will be so much easier in the long run because you've not only been taught how to do your work, but also to deal with the stress and commitment it takes to do well. If you can't push yourself to accept failure and work past it to survive at UofT, then you definitely wouldn't be a good fit for those types of careers in the first place.
