I would like to point out that, in the previous episode, Lois reveals to Clark that she hates her father because he always lied to her. It caused her to develop trust issues. I can see why she got pissed when, this guy she totally likes, turns out that he has been lying to her since the day they met. Clark is in the right for wanting to protect him identity and secrets and Lois in correct in how she feels due to her past. I do want to say I hate this trope, but I understand why they did it here. It makes sense for the characterization they have developed for Lois and Clark.

I’d also like to point out that she’s mad at her father specifically because he lied to her about how sick her mom was. She didn’t like how he kept pretending like everything was fine, putting on a brave face, only to blindside her with the sudden death of her loved one and the reality of the serious debt they were under. I think it’s not really just the lying that literally drove her over the edge, it’s the fact that he was obviously HURT and was LYING ABOUT IT, that made her angry. Remember that she was quite sure Clark was Superman for the whole episode but only really got angry when he showed up to her wounded and lied about it, that’s what triggered her
@biske85 Жыл бұрын
The context for her getting mad is way different than Amber in Invincible. When Invincible told Amber, she was like "I know" and got super mad at him when she knew he was "leaving" to save people in events where even she was in danger and she could clearly see him saving people and returning, and it contradicts other occasions where if she really would have known since then, well, a lot of stuff just makes no sense. In My Adventures With Superman, they show the moment Lois figures out Clark is Superman, and spends a good chunk of the episode trying to get Clark to confess, confronting him as both Clark and as Superman, even putting herself in danger by handcuffing herself to Superman, and he still won't fess up. She even calls him Clark as he's flying away afterwards, and when he returns all injured after a fight (where he takes an alternate route to her, since he left her on a roof) as Clark, she's concerned about his well-being because he's all obviously injured, and as she's expressing concern over him and very obviously not caring that he is, in fact, Superman, he says it was just a shaving accident (on the back of his neck) and she gets mad that he's keeping the charade up when she's clearly worried about him. He keeps denying he's Superman over and over in spite of everything, and gets mad that he only confessed after she jumped off the roof and couldn't deny it anymore. It's nothing like the Amber scene. Clark then explains that he didn't want to tell her because she said she was going to reveal all of Superman's secrets in a previous episode where he was about to confess he was Superman to her, which, fair, but she's hurt because she's like "Well, I mean, I wouldn't have if I had known it was you at the time" (in like, a sad tone, not being mad about it).
@Regenmacher175 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, he continuously avoids having to admit the truth when it is obvious to her who he actually is and she just wants him to finally come out and say it. If someone in your life came home full of bruises and you pieced together the reasons behind it and they still denied that anything bad happened to them at all would you not get angry at some point, especially if the other person's lies are getting flimsier by the second? He obviously explains why he does not reveal his identity to her and it might be legit in his mind but a) she does not care about the danger at all and b) he fails to realise that she hopes he confirms to her that he's not the same type of person her father is.
@dreamcanvas5321 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, this was consistent with my interpretation too. Clark hasn't understood that Lois is genuinely concerned for and engaged in considering his safety, because while she isn't superhuman, she is courageous and determined to fight for those she cares about. Her realizing his identity hasn't negated her concerns, she's now worried about Clark (as Superman) getting himself hurt or even killed.

There is some missing context here. In a previous episode, Lois gets caught lying to Clark, and he gets really upset about it. @@MrRizeAGThe problem is it isn’t about her in this situation. It’s about his safety. So far in the story Superman is the only naturally super-powered person on earth. Now imagine your in Clark’s situation and the girl you’ve been working with for about a month has straight up told you that she wants to “expose Superman”. Would that not terrify you? Should he really be expected to gives his most private secret to someone he knew for such a short time? To someone who “hates” Superman and wants to show the world who he is? It’s a problem of Lois being so offended that he didn’t trust her that she doesn’t show any empathy towards his situation and why he might not want to. Also in the case of Lois lying it was a lot worse because her lie’s actually put his career and life at risk while his lie was kind of just him protecting his own business.

It's almost like characters struggling and having to figure out solutions to their problems makes them more interesting. If Superman didn't have any limitations you'd have to figure out a way to write the story so that every criminal now suddenly has kryptonite for him to be in any peril at all. I’m sorry but I was NEVER convinced of this dumb idea that Superman is somehow “too powerful” to struggle. Not only is it blatantly not true if you look at most Superman media (he’s not exactly ending every fight in a single punch like people like to pretend), but it’s a complaint that fully misses the point of superhero storytelling when you really think about. Complaining Superman is too powerful cause he can lift heavy things is like saying ANY superhero is boring for having incredible super-strength far beyond a real human’s. It doesn’t actually matter how strong the hero is, what ACTUALLY matters is how strong they are in COMPARISON to the villains they fight and the conflicts they face. And look at Superman’s villains; Zod, Doomsday, Darkseid, Braniac etc. Most of these are demi-Gods or at the very least alien conquerors with power directly comparable to Superman. So when people complain that he’s “too strong” and “doesn’t struggle”, it just comes across like they’re stuck in the 1930s and have this impression of superman as someone who only goes up against bank robbers and not genuine threats.

Actually a good example of what I’m talking about is Goku. Do the DBZ fanbase complain that he’s “too strong” because he can shake the universe itself? Of course not, because his villains can do the same thing anyway so the struggle to fight an equal or greater foe is always still there.

The worst part is that they could've still done the whole plot point where Amber's mad at him and they break up but with reasons that actually work for her character. Instead of getting mad at him for lying, they should've written it that she's mad at him for how poorly he'd been keeping his secret identity and how she almost died that night because of it. I totally agree with Vaush about how dumb it is when the superheroes' girlfriends get mad at them when they learn about their secret identity. Obviously secret identities are a thing for a reason, and it's not as if it's a bad thing to find out your boyfriend is saving the world and has superpowers. It really doesn't make much sense for any rational, emotionally stable person to get mad about that kind of thing. To me it feels like a silly, shoehorned in aspect of our world that is clumsily applied to these works of fiction, like the writers figure "well people in relationships get mad when they find out their partner has not been honest about something, and these superheroes are forced to be dishonest about this one thing, therefore it must make sense for this character to get mad about this", but to make such a conclusion is to utterly disregard any realistic consideration for human psychology in the face of such a drastically unprecedented circumstance. It wouldn't be completely unimaginable that a person would have such a response, but not someone who is otherwise depicted as being an intelligent and reasonable person, rather than the type of individual who would be likely to start a fight with their significant other over something that occurred in a dream they had. That type of writing is kind of like writing a story in which the last remaining humans strive to survive after a cosmic horror-induced apocalypse where an otherwise intelligent and rational character constantly spends time worrying about paying off his college loans because the writers figure that worrying about debt makes them relatable without consideration for how ludicrous that sentiment is within the given context.

it makes sense in the series. people are missing the point, she isnt angry at him for lying, she is angry because she told him she knows, and he still refused to come clean. also, she is not in her right mind. she hasnt slept, she spent the entire day pursuing him, and she is mentaly drained not only for trying to make him admit, but also because she see him go once again after a group of people she is scared could kill him. so when it happens, she is just done with the bullshite. also, they will make up in the next episode.

@@marcosdheleno Those are all excellent points. But, you see, Superman's choices are always right no matter what happens because the comics said so. That's it, no discussion. End of story. @@marcosdheleno I haven't watched the show, I was more focused on the situation with regard to Amber in Invincible as well as the fact that many writers for superhero stories almost seem to treat that trope as a staple within the genre. That being said, I don't necessarily think that what you're describing absolves her behavior completely. I mean, why wouldn't someone in her shoes take the potential reasons for his secrecy into consideration? Why not discuss it like a rational person; did she just constantly hound him about "knowing his identity" or did she ever try to understand why he would not want to reveal his hero identity and attempt different approaches to reason with him about it; for all she could have known, he may have had no choice in the matter. We're talking about superhuman aliens with other-wordly capabilities-- how does she know he wasn't being observed at all times and would be killed for revealing who he was etc. My point is just that it is extremely stupid to assume that a completely morally good person who secretly spends a lot of their time literally saving the world and rescuing people would have reason to withhold their secret that was anything but benevolent on their part. Any argument in favor of her response is an argument against the need for secret identities in the first place, which could be made to an extent, since most stories of this nature fail to properly illustrate the justification for such things, but the need for the secret identity is really to be taken as somewhat of an axiom within the genre.
@marcosdheleno Жыл бұрын
@@bunklypeppz like i said, you need to understand her mental state at that point. not only did she find out the person she loves has been lying to her, to her face, he is someone she thought was honest to a fault. its more of a "if he is able to lie about this, what else is he willing to lie about? does he even like me?" and that snowball goes on. also, the show doesnt want you to SIDE with her, they want you to UNDERSTAND her point of view. this is lois, not lana, she WILL become his partner and accept it. probably by the end of next episode even.

Honestly, this particular plotline isn’t finished. If Lois comes out of the other side realizing that she is mostly angry due to hangups with her father giving her trust issues and Clark learns that he can confide in Lois then I’m okay with it. If it ends with Lois being in the right and Clark being wrong, I would find that to be a problem. But yeah as long as this is a gateway to further character development, I would be fine with this. Especially since Lois has consistently been a fun character in this show and even fun in this episode until the end. I have no problem with Lois going the extra mile for her convictions. Think of Amber from Inincible for example, yeah woke agenda jokes and all, theres no problem with her being black, but shes also both a huge Karen and at the same time sort of treated as an awsome person by the show. Wich ticks all the boxes: -Raceswap a white character -Make them less likable -Make the show treat them like they are more likable than they are So when women see superman fuck up its just like ''aw man that wasnt very well written'' or something, but when guys see the oposite theres this instant fear that the character they like will be changed and join the legions of shitty girlboss characters that no one likes. Wich granted, is still an overreaction but i feel like this is why it happens.

I also want to point out that Clark also acknowledged that what Lois did was crazy and out of line right after this scene. She also was distrustful of Superman calling him a liar and wanting to expose all his secrets several times in the past episodes. She even lied to him in the first episode and risked him losing his job just to get a story, which the show acknowledged was wrong. I like how the recent animated DCEU did it. In their take of Death of Superman, Lois Lane knows for a fact that Clark Kent is hiding stuff from her and it irritates her to no end that he’s doing it as they’re in love. Clark’s parents even call him out on it saying he should reveal his identity. Later he sets up a diner date upon which she’s about to break up with him over this and he goes “I have two major secrets: 1) I am Superman” and she doesn’t believe him until he proves it himself. Then just as it becomes abundantly clear he needs to join the fight against Doomsday, he then whispers in her ear “and 2) I love you” before he flies off to have the fight of his life. It’s an extremely vulnerable and emotional moment that puts you in Lois’ shoes as she grapples with all of this as she reports on the fight. It’s a great movie that’s incredibly intense with this half hour long fight sequence between Superman and Doomsday

With the Invincible Amber thing, I kinda feel like the writers knew that Amber was in the wrong but went down that route in order to make the relationship more messy, more interesting. Having a healthy relationship like the two had in the comics is great and all but sometimes you don't have that in reality (particularly with teenage relationships cause the both of you may be far from fully baked adults). I think it's a nice sober perspective to take and -if it's done well- could really help teach the audience a thing or two about how to work through a relationship like that.
@mikhaelgribkov4117 Жыл бұрын
But the whole reason it was healthy IS BECAUSE THEY THEN BROKE OUT ON GOOD TERMS. The Amber in the comic was casual life Mark couldn't have due to responsobility. And making actually sweet avoided basic comic melodrama, BECAUSE COMIC WAS SATIRE AND COMMENTARY ON THE GENRE.

Came her debut episode, she and a very popular white male character kiss while the man has a girlfriend, essentially making the man cheat. I personally think it's dumb that they hype up a female character whose only purpose is so that a male character can cheat on his girlfriend with said female character, especially when the cheating man got no repercussion whatsoever and the woman's story involvement is super generic and cliche, but the way people turn on her... whew...

As someone who does not identify as a woman but was raised to become one at an earlier point in my life, I agree with him with that women and young girls are made to excuse toxic behavior from men based on the idea that "that's how guys are", in the case of a man doing something more explicitly feminine as a way to broaden the masculine gender role, most women would probably welcome that though some may lose interest in the guy as a potential love interest because it doesn't attract them.

You can be nostalgic for things that came out before you were born if you watch them when you are young your "Formative years" Or things that came out around that same time or remind you of the stuff your nostalgic for or by deliberately aping the look ie stranger things . It doesn't just have to be things that were released when you were young.

I never understood how the partner knowing would put the partner in danger? I mean if it gets out to villains sure, but look at the other Superman and Lois show where Lois literally has an emergency Superman button, it literally saves her multiple times. Imagine if said partner gets in danger and does not have a superhero on call to bail them out of trouble? Is that really preferable? The problem with this building scene is Lois already knows and Clark keeps lying anyways, even though he was SUPER obvious about things all days. Like, why even bother lying at that point you played yourself already.

Irl when people find out you’re a superhero they usually just abruptly stop talking to you.

12:30 This scene is awesome until you realize that Superman would 100% be able to know if a bullet emerged from her gun or not. He would see it coming long before it hit him. So basically, Goku spanks.

idk imagine if you find out the first time you kissed your boyfriend that he wasn't even using 1% of his true power. He was an alein who wouldnt even use his real name. Ascended even further beyond yet still with no understanding of his culture. He shamed you at the worlds martial arts tournament with no concerns for your Sayian pride.

Earlier in the movie Lois jumps into the raging river that if I remember correctly plunges towards a giant waterfall.

So far I love this show and I don't care what anyone says. This show got the characters right for the most part, especially Clark, I am so glad to see a hopeful superman after so many years and tropes of the "evil superman" or "broken superman" character we have gotten that just shows people don't understand the character. They did a poor job of why Superman's disguise is SUPPOSED to work. But it makes sense with how they are going in this one and I will take that for a hopeful just straight good guy superman and not dumb Lois all while having the characters still have their own flaws. And for Lois it makes perfect sense for HER character because the REASON she is a journalist because she doesn't like lies and secrets because of how many she grew up with because of her father being in the military. This is a primary feature of her character and she isn't even dating Clark yet. They revealed it this early because we are likely GOING to see her move past this in the coming episodes, unlike Amber in invincible who apparently knew the whole time and just left because she wasn't getting the attention she thought she deserved. It is one of those "context= King" things where the same actions can have profoundly different meanings due to the actions and context around them.

Of all the current incarnations of Superman, by the little bit I have seen of this show, this is the most personal Superman/Clark I have seen. Even more personal than Christopher Reeves' Superman. Lois design is icing on the cake. I am still partial to John Williams' Superman March.

Lois Lane in Flashpoint Paradox literally went into a Warzone alone between the Amazons and Atlantians. She is insane.

Can we drop super heroes keeping their identity secret from friends and family? Blue Beetle's solo comic avoided this and it worked out for him. Unlike Spectacular spider man which backfired constantly.

It’s an old trope and it’s a terrible one at that. It’s a great show but this one thing here pissed me off too. Clark was right to not reveal it to her because she said she was going to expose him.

I think this trope has to work a certain way. I think it’d be different if a character had revealed and opened up about herself, being vulnerable to the main character (the superhero), and is hurt when she finds out he’s a superhero. To me, this works better and makes sense with her getting mad at the superhero character. Idk, I think it works better that way, but that’s just me.
