***** loved hearing you guys' perspective on raw vegan- mainly that you emphasized how there are different approached to vegan, including "i eat whatever i want as long as it's vegan." :) that's a great philosophy! and even better on a boat.

Good tips. I've been vegan for years and what I've come to learn about my body is that when it's craving "beef" it doesn't actually want the beef. It wants the iron and there are so many veggies and legumes that have tons of iron. So if you're having a craving for something non-vegan, look deeper as it could be something that that food has. Like when I crave peanut butter (which is vegan of course) it really just means my body is craving some sort of fat. and I know this to be true because when I satisfy the root of the craving, the craving goes away.

Rad. Just found you guys yesterday while trying to find a Vegan corn dog recipe. Thanks for that too. I have to say sometimes it is really hard dealing with the haters when they're people you have to interact with for work. I'm a DeathMetal vocalist and there isn't much love at shows for Vegans. Anyway, I've subbed now!

Honest Question: Am I stupid/terrible by following a vegan diet for health/ethical reasons, but still buy products (such as shoes) that have animal products in them? It's just that I love sneakers like Jordans, Nike, and etc. They are very important to me. Thanks for the video.

No you are not. Its normal. Usually people just drift apart from clothings with leather
@hellogoogle9015
@hellogoogle9015 10 жыл бұрын
You question is illogical. How you are vegan for ethical reasons but you buy shoes that contain animal product.So you are not in it for ethical reasons and you are in it for just health reasons and that is selfish .
@PaperCIoud
@PaperCIoud 10 жыл бұрын
abdullah hajjar Well, when I first started (I was 15 and I'm 22 now), it was 100% ethical. But back then I never had a choice of what clothes I can wear because my parents bought them, so I never drifted from wearing animal products. I have no plans on eating meat ever again because it doesn't feel right to me. I don't like real leather jackets or real leather boots/shoes (not sneakers) and etc. But I guess you're right. It's still selfish.
@marystestkitchen
@marystestkitchen 10 жыл бұрын
I think the question should not be if you are terrible/stupid. The question is, does buying those things agree with your own ethical beliefs? The fact that you are questioning yourself suggests to me that you are not OK with supporting the leather industry.

I eat a largely raw based diet for health reasons mainly.. I know that may sound superficial, I am happy to help animals and the environment but yeah, I get shamed very often for the reason I chose to go vegan..
@marystestkitchen
@marystestkitchen 10 жыл бұрын
That's probably because eating a raw plant based diet doesn't make one a vegan. Vegans are followers of *veganism* which is a philosophy that is about avoiding the exploitation of animals. It's an actual made up word for that purpose; coined by Donald Watson, one of the founders of The Vegan Society. It's awesome that you eat a largely plant based diet. It's just that using the term vegan to describe yourself when you don't follow that philosophy is misleading. I hope that made sense. My intent is just to explain, not to criticize in any way.
@shelbyfuchs7374
@shelbyfuchs7374 10 жыл бұрын
Oh I didn't think that it was criticizing! (: I also don't eat cheese or any animal by-products though. I still eat cooked foods sometimes but it is all vegan. I guess I don't follow the "veganism" philosophy to a tee, just the diet lifestyle. (: and yeah I definitely try to eat mostly raw. It is super expensive so I only eat like, 2-3 meals raw a day. (: It has changed my outlook on life. I still am vegan for more than just health reasons, but I guess what I meant to say was that it was the biggest reason I went that direction in the first place, I am ecstatic that I can contribute to the humane treatment of animals! (: Thank you for the feedback! (:

Watson's original definition of "vegan" was a vegetarian who did not eat dairy or eggs. The term "vegan" was later expanded by the Vegan Society on to include abstaining from the exploitation of animals. The VS does not own the definition of the word even though they have their own. There are "dietary vegans" "ethical vegans" and "environmental vegans". I don't see anything wrong with using "vegan" if you are a "dietary vegan", that is the original meaning of the word anyways.

Raw it's nice if it's based off of Doug Graham's work, granted I don't like the guy on a personal level. If you're trying to live off of, coconut oil, kale, green juice and flax crackers then we got a problem :/ It's not for me eithier way though. I like actual cooking too much and zucchini "pasta" is a great big watery mess e_e
@Jabberwock87
@Jabberwock87 10 жыл бұрын
Put zucchini pasta in a colander over a bowl in the fridge for water to drain. If you salt it first, the water will drain much faster and then you could remove excess salt with kitchen paper or something. It works very nice for anything with cooked zucchini or aubergine if the excess water is a problem. That is, of course, unless you're really serious about 80/10/10 because if you are, they will tell you that any amount of salt, even a pinch, is automatically poison and you should just learn to accept the watery mess I guess, your choice. I personally don't mind salting to remove excess water and then remove the excess salt before eating.
@Janine.Najarian
@Janine.Najarian 10 жыл бұрын
I already know about that, and honestly I prefer real pasta. It's nice to do that if you want to get fancy with carrots and beets or whatever in a salad but to replace actual pasta = NOPE. Been there, done that, fucking over it.

@Jabberwock87 10 жыл бұрын
Jani Ⓥ real pasta is awesome, a lot less work, I love it too. Besides, it's nice to be able to eat "normal food" in front of your friends and family. If the "raw is law" thing works for someone, more power to them, I like having options and old-fashioned stove cooking, especially stews and soups. Can't live without lentils either lol :D

I'm trying to go vegan and having difficult going raw so I follow recipes like yours. However I'm skeptical about Tofu/ soy. In Japan Tofu is a small part of their diet. Also I've heard that the fermentation of soy in Asian countries that do it is done for months and in Western countries the fermentation process is shorter and does not allow time to remove the harmful elements. Sorry to be a negatron, but for me organic green leafy veggies and various fruits seem to be the way to go. These are the things reported to be wrong with Soy. -Phytoestrogen is a plant-based estrogen that mimics true estrogen, and soy contains more than any other source. Elevated estrogen levels can lead to breast cancer, early-onset puberty, infertility, decreased libido, and uterine fibroid tumors. -Goitrogens suppress the normal functioning of the thyroid, which regulates your metabolism. Furthermore, an Isoflavone called Genistein inhibits your thyroid’s natural hormone production and ability to absorb nutrients. A damaged thyroid may cause weight gain, fatigue, irregular menstruation, and loss of cognitive function. -Phytic acid blocks your digestive system’s ability to absorb nutrients. For this reason, many studies have linked soy to malnutrition.
