My college did a glorious version of "The Tempest" in the 70s with the stage dominated by a giant rotating island. For me, the high point was when Prospero had spent four acts tormenting the men who'd marooned him on the island 15 years ago, but Ariel said that she would feel pity for those men--"were I human." It was so the opposite of "Hamlet"!
