Nice to have your buddy in those shots to show the scale of the size of this thing!! 😳. Just boggles my mind what lengths those old miners went through to get the “ Good stuff” ….. lots & lots of time & effort went into mines like this one , not to mention the pure physical hard labor to bring down all the timbering & bracing and lumber for the ore shutes ….. just amazing what one finds when looking. Thanks Justin for sharing this with us. 👍. Can’t wait to see what you post next . Gly from “Abandoned and forgotten places” would be in Hog Heaven if he was with you guys here in this adventure. C-ya

But holy shit that drop where there was mud on the path where you were climbing? I would never mess with that! It only takes one slip and then you're down all the way and in that nasty water... Or worse breaking something or getting a nail through the boot!

More excellent exploring! That slipper incline looked well dodgy, one slip and you are down in that water. The clams we call them rust oysters, we see them too growing on iron and such. With all that mud I bet those levels do flood up in the Winter months. reminds me of a local mine we go down in the Summer as it's cut off with flood water in Winter, a kind of sump. Really cool exploring though, nice to see something original and no looked at before, it makes every inch special and exciting!

I was amazed by the quartz! I know less than nothing about these things, but even a guy like me has to wonder, with the geology we saw and the vast amount of quartz in there (it was, quite literally, in almost every shot) if that mine could produce and make a buck in the world we live in today. The, "rust clams" are a real puzzle indeed. And your description was spot on.

Looks like some copper values there , how much is anyone's guess , but , might be worth taking some samples . It doesn't take much copper to turn a whole mountain blue , or , make secondary deposits on the ribs and back turn blue . But , when the water standing in the adit starts depositing blisters of copper on iron and steel objects , it might be worth a closer look . The old timers did.not miss much , but they did miss some , and , ignored stuff that did not pay at the time , or , was beyond their capability to recover . So it is always worth another look at these old workings and any tailings as well . Might just be another fortune or two laying about . Or not . Still ,it is impressive and sketchy as hell . Lots of " NOPE! " in every direction .

The UG of all your districts matches the stuff we have over this way quite closely. As much as I'm fascinated (humbled even) by the desert museums, I'll take mud over dust any day. The rotten timber and slimes do make progress a bit more involved though. Great mine + trip dude, excited to see the conclusion. Already can't wait 'til spring...

the amount of material they left behind makes me think they were "highgrading" the best part of the vein for milling, the rest was left behind for later. The pillars havent been nibbled away at either, so no one ever seems to have returned to this place after it closed up. That pyrite sand is the high grade contact with the host rock that the miners were after, only part of the vein carried it.

The miners that worked in there must have been giants, to have been able to move wooden beams that enormous! I however wonder if a giant piece of wood like they might put in with the idea of securing a side of rock (don't know how to more accurately describe it) as we see they did at 5:45 would actually help at all if such a large piece of rock ever would come loose indeed?

What are they identifying as a “grizzly” at 7:00 mark?
@daveg21042 жыл бұрын
That wooden construction (parallel planks on beams) submerged in the water. It seems it is actually a platform. Grizzly bars/screens are a grating used to filter out large rocks from the ore or waste rock that is being sent down an ore pass or chute. These large rocks can then be broken up, or removed. You saw the type of damage large boulders can do to ore chutes. In older mines, these grates are often made from steel rail track.
