Personally, I think this is a bit excessive tbh even though it is a huge step in AI advancements as that call only took about 30-40 seconds which can be expended even in someones very busy day. Moreover, where do we draw the line with this technology in terms of making phone calls with family or friends when it's not actually us? In terms of medical scenarios where the user is incapable of calling the emergency room or doctor, then the technology seems to have a place and may actually be useful but a hair salon appointment..doesnt seem very necessary.

"Ok Google, Call mom and inform her that Im going for a movie with friends and wont be able to talk until afterwards" How is that a bad thing? Ofcourse it has its own unique voice and not mimicking your own. I know it may be able to mimic our voices too, one day, but as long as its us making that choice, its fine.
@omarbukhary6 жыл бұрын
Nahush Bhat that's fair if it wasn't possible to have a few seconds to call her and let her know or even message her instead. I think the point which you've made applies to more critical scenarios where it would put something detremental at risk such as a job or so where this would be a more than welcome addition. Hopefully this doesnt lead to people choosing not to speak to their close ones in the future because theres an easier and quicker option :p.

9:58 That reminds me of the same feature on old Lumia Windows Phones from a long time ago. It's so nice to see it here on Google Maps in a more modern form! I always loved that ^^
@kornkernel22326 жыл бұрын
TechPassion I think its more of Nokia's app instead of the Windows Phone itself, though these street view overlays are not new, but we got it better now because of added implementation of AR techniques, which wasn't much of a thing before. Shame that Microsoft just can't get head around consumers consistently and executed well on the mobile front, despite their capability. Oh well, at least some of the good things from them are now available to other platforms that most people use, which is a win-win.
@techpassion41266 жыл бұрын
KornKernel Hence why I mentioned the old Lumias in particular! ^^ But yeah, Windows Phones did have quite a number of things going for it! But being first to do something won't mean anything if the person who created it isn't gonna work on it. Right now Windows Phone feels abandoned by Microsoft, at least in my opinion, hence why I'm on Android now. I'm assuming you used a Windows Phone before too?

It doesn’t think for itself, it’s just a disembodied voice of an AI that goes down a phrase map. If you say A then the AI says B and so on, it’s not thinking.
@TreeGem6 жыл бұрын
No, I don't think so. Here a quote from wikipedia on the Turing test: "Turing proposed that a human evaluator would judge natural language conversations between a human and a machine designed to generate human-like responses. The evaluator would be aware that one of the two partners in conversation is a machine, and all participants would be separated from one another. The conversation would be limited to a text-only channel such as a computer keyboard and screen so the result would not depend on the machine's ability to render words as speech.[2] If the evaluator cannot reliably tell the machine from the human, the machine is said to have passed the test." If you're honest, in case you know beforehand that one of the two conversationalists is a computer, you'd recognize it in the example in the video. HOWEVER, as the speech rendering should not be included in your decision, it might pass the test, but then again, it might have passed it already years ago.

@11:44 WEMO. Wonder how this system will work with police direction. Here in NL you must follow the directions of policemen over traffic rules, so he can order you to stop for a green light or go through a red light. How will the systeem deal with that !?
@otomackena76106 жыл бұрын
no it wont work because its model is not trained for that
@Guust_Flater6 жыл бұрын
Altair exactly....but they let the cars drive without a driver (as back up / emergency). How can they be sure that during the first roll out there not will be a situation with a policemen giving directions? Maybe it is smart enough to 'just stop' if it does not know what to do....but thats only 50%, sometimes you have to move (follow police order), so i.e. a firetruck can pass a crossing. And even after training....will they ever be able to coop with police orders?
@otomackena76106 жыл бұрын
Guust Waymo is not planning for global roll out it will be only launched select cities in U.S. The system is not perfect that it can take care of things on its own. Things are different in ever region of the world so if they are launching Waymo in other country or unfamiliar region it has to be trained specifically for that region.
@Guust_Flater6 жыл бұрын
Altair Just US and not the whole world, or just 1 city in the US, it does not matter. Lets say 1 city in the US, there is going to be a moment that it has to deal with a policemen. Is not a matter of 'if' , but 'wenn'. And then what !? If they have no solution for that, is it responsable to send out these cars without a (back up) driver !? No imo.
@DanielLamando6 жыл бұрын
Guust Waymo is trained to understand hand signals from authority figures. They've shown the system recognizing these signals before.

I think this is great updates. The way Google Assistant make reservation is I believe an advanced tech. I actually more concern about the way the presenters do presentation. I know there were giant monitors in front of them so they could easily read the slides. But it made their eyes more often look down than looking at the audience. They at least should have understand the deck that will be presented, so that they only need a glance to see the slide below, then can directly speak while looking at the audience. The feel will be very different

Alex Hein I can't tell if that comment is being facetious or you're young and naive or what but you're wrong. An AI will never lose to a human at chess now if it's playing to win. Hell that's been true since the late 1990s.
