Binaural recording doesn't work with large form sound projection. The effect really only works with a 2 channel system, and you can even hear a very noticeable difference with and without headphones. Binaural recording is meant to emulate the actual feeling of you being in the presence of the audio - this means that sound is reaching your left ear at different times, different pitch, different volume, etc. compared to your right ear. Essentially, binaural recording is meant to emulate how we actually hear. It's pretty cool how setups are often done - a dummy's head, with one microphone sticking out of one ear, and another microphone sticking out of the other ear, as an example.
@Assassunn9 жыл бұрын
DrJones694 it needs earphones !

and damn stereo mic frome Rode, or cheap Zoom recorder will record same street sound, you can put some processing on top of recording to make it sound exactly like 3dio bs
@AurelTristen10 жыл бұрын
Евгений Фуко Can you be more specific about what processing allows you to mimic 3dio? I happen to have a Zoom H4n and would like to try it! Also, I agree with your first comment. My roommate bought a pair of $1,000 headphones, as well as an amp, dac, and fancy gold magic cords. After downloading all his music in FLAC format, he switched back to using speakers... That said, I think audio companies that make studio gear would be less gimmicky, and not a bad partner for Oculus, VS the ones that peddle to the audiophiles.

Kyle Biggs There is lot of guys who experiment with "binaural" recordings, what i basicly ment is signal processing, there is a software ways you can replicate distortions of plastic ear, all you need is good source material with enough data, most important thing here is listening device, and since everybody got different headsets all those calibrated binaural mics does not make any sense. Trick to good stereo recording is right amount of isolation, with only one zoom it can be done with detaching one of mics, or by using pair of external mics. Just put some kind of isolation between them, it really depends on mics and their directional characteristics, but even without any physical stuff, some stereo enhancers will do magic. Again, amount of distortion done with consumer headphones... there is just no reason to use 2k mic head dummy for this stuff, i am not even sure they got good mics inside XD I heard good stereo recording, magically done by pair of regular mics. and some with rode stereo mic witch cost around 300$. if you want to experiment with just one zoom h4n download audacity, and try some stereo enhancer plugins, there is a lot of them and they use same algorithms, flatter frequency response of zoom, and try modeling it after human ear frequency response, you can even go crazy and use impulse response to model human ear. or just get a pair of cheap lavalier mics inside head shape foam block XD

well palmer said him self this cheap looking headphones better than most of the 3d headphones and it will be supported in sdk better than any other 3d headphone

Cool video, but the audio isn't very detailed. Too much compression or something?

Maybe because it wasn't REAL binaural audio. You also need a dummy head for the most realistic results.

I don't think that binaural audio is that impressing to be honest. At the end of the video you showed you cats eating wet food, and the video is in front of me, but the audio suggest that the right cat is eating near my right ear and that the left cat is eating right beside my left ear. It does not make any sense. The audio of the cats should come from a relative direction of what the visual representation of the cats suggest.

***** it's not about the volume. It's about how our brains relate the video and audio together.
