One thing to note is that players can order Mangonels to fire at a certain location. This can be bad if the player successfully predicts your troop movements.

He does use control groups. It's just the hotkey editor doesn't allow you to reassign the groups, so it shows up as disabled. If you change the "Version" in the top left from "AOC/FE/HD2.0" to "HD 4.4+" then the option to change these hotkeys is enabled for that version of the game.

Pretty much impossible to counter unless you can sit behind big stone walls with plums, onagers/scorps, or unless you have unlimited access to gold and can make Eagles. Your best bet in a standard game is as Sameer said, get an early advantage and don't let him get to Huskarls comfortably.

I think you can use the split/straight formation trick to take less damage against castle, tower and TC fire if the opponent has ballistics. Split the moment you see arrows shooting out from the buildings, and rejoin at the last moment. Have been trying it out against the AI lately.

It works fairly well offline against the AI but in online play I usually wouldn't even bother with it, the delay is way too huge in most cases to get any sort of consistent result from this.

I only use hotkeys for houses and farms :S i have no clue how to control group or whatever lol (i'm sub 1500 and played 2 games online...)

Hotkeys? Go to options - hotkeys, you can customize your hotkeys there. For control groups, the basic command is Ctrl+(number) with desired group selected. Then you select the units/buildings if you press (number) once and take you to them if you press (number) twice. In the original game (pre-Forgotten), the important hotkeys used to be like this: H - select and view your Town Center B - build (with villager selected): A - archery range B - barracks L - stable K - siege workshop V - castle S - blacksmith M - market I - mill F - farm D - dock E - house ...and others Pressing Ctrl+(letter) will then get you to the building. Definitely use . which shows you idle villagers (also some side/middle button on your mouse works if you have those). For unit stance, in the original game, it was like this: N - stand ground D - defensive A - aggressive It shows you if you move your mouse over it, as well as with formations. I go fix my hotkeys now, every new expansion fucked them up and I need them working. Cheers, fellow players! :)
