been playing for over 20 years, and have watched many many series. Though there have been many series as intense/ close as this one, I felt obliged to comment given the landscape of pro players today. Viper was the underdog for the first time in a long time, and he came back from 3-1 to take the series! thats some epic AOE history right there

Viper strategies were so simple and effective. He won one game with skirms and trebs, then the other with mass eagles + 1 monk 11. Something fresh seeing this instead of complex armies

Game 6 viper was floating SOOOO much gold and stone! Why was viper still making only light cav?

Viper does this a lot in late game, and it is simply to stock up on the important ressources. If you notice, he was still constantly adding siege, and that is the most important late game gold units. He would not add Samurai (Hera Arba + castles) and there is no need for own arba due to only weak LC and skirms from Hera. So he kept it. Hera began selling ressources for siege, while Viper could keep making siege for 50 min more. That is simply how he plays the very long game ^^

It always feels like Viper loses half of his game knowledge and skill when he plays Hera. He makes the same mistakes I make as a 1300 player. Hera's brutally efficient and orthodox gameplay is just so strong it's damn near impossible to play around, and especially with him making weird choices like in Game 4, or screwing himself over by overbooming like game 2. Whenever he talks on stream after a Hera loss he's always kicking himself over for the weird choices he makes in the games he losses.

been watching TheViper for years....he can be very frustrating to watch as he tries too much just to have fun at times and ends up trolling himself....he does find weird play combinations through this but you can see even he kicks himself after for the bad choices he made

I think that it's only really terrible because it's against Hera who punishes it like crazy, against everyone else it is very different, but Hera is like the ultimate meta player, and you need to play with a refined strat to beat him.

​@@michaelkendall662Viper probably developed some bad habits due to his total dominance of the scene for many years. No one was close and he could always rely on his superior micro, quick walling and macro to win his games/sets. Also cannot underestimate the fear factor, at some point people just stopped trying certain things vs TheViper because they assumed he wouldn't make sub-optimal moves. Hera is fearless and just plays his own game and ranks himself higher than TheViper. That is a big difference.

I’m a little late, but the conversation about the Armenians is interesting. I say this with all due respect, but I strongly feel Viper played the civilization poorly. Full Archer tech tree, Bloodlines. Strong infantry. May not be popular anymore but a MA or Archer opening would have been better here.

Viper doing all upgrades in the game in game 6 instead of just building 20 cavalier and ending game.. He just cant finish a game/push at min 40 even when is a total lead because his unit comb is dog shit. Just add 5 knights or maybe some scouts and game is over. Viper only wins this due to clear civ advantage in many games.
