The melee units seem to ignore the barracks and rush the final tower. Could you maze with barracks/houses to make them run in a long route out of the way to delay them while killing them with ranged? Enemy ranged units + trebs would still be a problem but you might hold off the melee longer.

Really hoping GL makes custom map similar to this one, but where you can team up with others and you get to choose and only have to micro one hero like freaking Andy... Ideally you can level up the hero and etc as you get more kills while defending the base. Could be sweet and very funny to see all four or five GL members see how long they can last together.

i like this alternative modes. a " tower defense" / "survive" game is great and would be interesting in aoe. dota has insane alternative game mods. aoe has for sure the same potential

I think it mainly has to do with triggers, not everything is sped up I guess so you’ll encounter trebs at a later clock time etc. Not sure though, hope someone can provide a better answer

is it not a good idea to build a castle up the first hill so you can take the fights without the enemy having a hill bonus? you certainly have the units to push out that far at about the point of building the first castle.

oh damn, my next idea is maybe the gates are bait and it's better to lure the the enemy into your Walls to fight on even ground. Main issue would be the siege will kill the towers but maybe the dps from the towers would be better off as dps from range units on even ground. So let towers die, castles can put range the siege up until trebs that way you won't take large onager hits to the pikeman.

Fast speed advances game time faster for the same amount of real time. It can be harder, but the game clock is not 1-1 with a real life clock; the Normal speed setting is 1.7 seconds for every real life second and the Fast speed setting is 2 seconds for every real life second. Surviving 10 minutes real-time on Normal speed would give a final time of 17 minutes, on Fast speed a time of 20 minutes even though you didn't survive any longer. If Viper's last record time here was done on Fast speed it would have been something like 52 minutes instead of 44, so in a sense he beat Tatoh's fast speed record regardless on the clock, and it's also important that every official attempt is done on the same settings for consistency.

The only advantage to playing on a faster speed is that you can get more tries done in a given amount of real world time.
