Here you go: The lyrics were written by a Kazakh writer, poet, scientist and teacher Magzhan Zhumabayev (1893-1938), who was arrested and sent to prison under the Soviet regime. In the prison, they told him his wife had left him. He wrote this song about his love and his sadness. It turned out that his wife never left him (he had been lied to) and they were reunited in 1936, when he was released from prison. Unfortunately, their happiness did not last long, he was again arrested and executed in 1938 as an enemy of the state. The author's nickname for her was Daididau. Originally thought to be a folk song, it is now considered a quintessential Kazakh song. Here's a translation of the poem: I wrote a letter to you my dear It's been more than a year since I saw you When you cross my mind, my beautiful You stir the old pain in my heart. Ohh, daididau ay You stir the numbed pain in my heart Part of me is left with you my friend, (i didnt understand this part at all) We had promised to never break-up Your promise was a lie Ohh, daididau ayy Your promise was a lie

This is all 100% Dimash' native culture. The outfit, instrument, language, and composition are all from Kazakhstan. The players are all Kazakhstanian as well, and were part of his musical school he went to - each of them performed with him many times in the Opera house he performed in there. This was when Dimash' desire finally was realized - He wanted to bring Kazakhstan to light to the world, and put it on the map as a major country. With this, the knowledge of Kazakhstan and its music and culture became much more well known among modern people. This song was much more than just a song for Dimash - This is when he finally achieved his first step in major advancement to his 2nd biggest dream and goal. The song is about a prisoner who was wrongly informed of his wife leaving him for another love. It's his pain in the song. I wish we had a more translated one, at least in subs, that I could send you but, I'm afraid I don't know of one.

bye the way, this is a traditional Kazakh instrument called a dombra. Dimash made a quick trip back home to recruit the musicians from his alma mater, the National University of the Arts. The small group standing in front of the audience are professors from there too. The costume was also designed by students in the fashion design department. The song was written by a Kazakh poet and writer who was a nationalist and therefore a political dissident in the days of Soviet domination. He was sent to hard labor in Siberia, and there he was told (untruthfully) that his wife had left him. This song describes himself lifting a pen and writing to her asking why. Reportedly, after this performance, Dimash broke down in tears backstage, saying, I did it! Finally I did it! I brought Kazakh music to the world!

In a backstage interview he had also explained that, regardless of whether he progressed further in the competition or not, it was very important to him that he be able to honor and share the music from his country as his way of thanking everyone for their support. They even arranged to have members of the Kazakhstan Orchestra brought in to share the stage. That's a true professional, and someone appreciates sharing his pride and gratitude for the opportunities from the show.

Great analyses, Thanks! What truly makes a singer “good “ or even GREAT isn't always in the technical expertise, but in the actual sound of that voice, the embracing of a lyrical story, a certain phrasing within those musical sentiments of a song, and then what they can do vocally to transfer and transport a listener to that intangible part of the human heart/spirit. Some people can open their mouths, and instantly, the God-given sound they make enraptures you. It is a kind of audio/sonic sorcery that can deliver goosebumps, or smiles of remembrance, or even tears. Dimash`s all…

@THEVOCALLEXICON

Well, if it's in a group singing I could understand because some singer's vibrato are slow and others are faster and if they were to sing together and sound as one then eliminating vibrato is quite understandable. Not all the time though, depending on what the leader wants to achieve. But the soloist is free to sing with vibrato whenever
