Rik Emmett is a Rock God. I mean just on vocals alone, he is spectacular. Add in his phenomenal guitar prowess, and his frontman presence - legendary. Also, as you go notice how all the lyrics are meaningful - no fluff. Rush & Triumph have so much in common - power trios with incredible musicianship, intelligence & heart

@@aimfuldrifter how much triumph have yours been exposed to? Hinting at jimmy page. Plays like a two year old with a broken hand. There's no bests as it isn't a competition. I have one best and thats only due to Neil Peart writing lyrics, let alone his percussion skills. Lifeson has a really unique style that matches his sense of humor. He's not as distorted like everyone, and like his eclectic phrasing. He usually finishes in a more traditional manner.

Actually they are famous for their CRAZY WILD light shows, pyro, and lasers! Watch Live in Halifax 1987! Their light show was known for having MORE WATTAGE then ALL OF BROADWAY'S lights combined, which is a LOT! They also made the claim, unproven, that at the start of each tour they carried enough explosives/pyro to blow up a small European/African Country - the wattage claim was a FACT! They were known as having one of the best live shows of any and ALL of the 80s bands! They were one of the first to buy their own lighting and sound equipment rather then renting it and as such every Tour the show got bigger and BIGGER! They had something like 24 to 28 Semi Trucks to carry their stage show around from town to town and they only played during the week and EVERY Weekend they flew home to Mississauga on the weekends to spend with their Wives and Kids! On top of that they were the QUINTESSENTIAL MUSICIANS who wanted nothing more then to give their fans their Money's worth every performance!

I was gonna say before even watching your reaction that he knocks it out of the stadium during this performance. The comment that stands out is "how incredibly well-blended his registers are." I had been thinking the same for years, but didn't know how to articulate that observation. His transitions are so natural and effortless, and, at the same time, so surefooted - strident, even. Your comment about their apparent approachability is right on the money, as well, because they are all really great people who couldn't be more approachable. Wish I had been old enough to attend this festival. It had its problems, but many of the performances (Triumph and Missing Persons spring to mind) were just outstanding.

Bethany..a few thoughts. First off..the smile your face that takes over as soon as that 1st verse starts telegraphs every feeling you are going to have about this performance. It's legendary. Rik Emmett is/was quite literally light years beyond his peers, and for sure on the stage for the weekend festival. By the time they did this they were a well oiled, well rehearsed and slicky produced trio everybit as potent as say Rush. Second, I really enjoy watching reaction videos where you can bring knowledge to the table on someone elses prowess talnet needed to do it. Many people wrote bands off in the day and deemed them as having no talent...guys like Dickinson, Halford, Rik, DIO, Freddie, Geoff Tate, etc, prove all of them wrong. Third...you totally want to sing in Triumph!

Never Surrender is another banger from this concert. I think Rik sings even higher in that one.

I saw Triumph live in 1979. I was a 14 year old kid - front row right up against the barricade - directly in front of Rik Emmett. It was a beautiful experience. BLEW MY MIND.

Triumph is one of the most under rated bands. Rik Emmett and Gil Moore are both great vocalists. Follow your heart is a great song live as well

They were so underrated and something very special. I am not only lucky enough to have seen them play live multiple times, but also to know Rik and Gil personally and yes they are very chill and very laid back guys with great personalities! So glad more and more are discovering the guys that gave hard rock music a positive message in their lyrics!

The talent in this band much like Rush, is off the charts. You should react to "Follow Your Heart" where the drummer sings lead and Emmett sings back up.

I grew up during these times where prodigies like Triumph was common place . A product of a truely FREE society. Looking at that crowd I see myself and just about everyone I knew. No 70 yrs brings tears to my eyes. Thank you m'aam for your accurate accounting of Rik's God given gift .

Thank you for showcasing Triumph once again! And yes, I am also obsessed with Rik’s voice. That mix voice! Btw, you should check out Tommy Shaw of Styx and Damn Yankees! Similar vocal mix technique and capabilities. Another underrated singer, that deserves recognition and analysis for a vocal masterclass

You are happy on about them being approachable, I saw Rik at a show in a small club in Newport RI, he was playing some of his jazz stuff. Got a chance to talk to him for a few and he couldnt have been more humble and appreciative of the fans that showed up. I also saw Triumph few times back in the 1980's, I had second row the night they filmed the Follow Your Heart video in Providence RI. You always knew going to a Triumph show it was going to rock!!!

Rush is the most popular band from Metro Toronto. Triumph is 2nd. Both have a trio structure. They are friends. 🤝 Rik Emmett adds flips and squeaks which the younger Geddy Lee did. Metallica is a fan of both bands. James Hetfield wore a Triumph shirt 👕 while he and the rest of Metallica recorded with Bob Rock, who was based in Vancouver. Good 👍 analysis.

For sure, i love the album version lead break. Its a very classical progression but needs that 2nd guitar to bring it to life. With just a 3 piece, the ammended solo is understandable.

YOU are amazing! Watching YOU watch (and listening) to HIM is fantastic! I’m 65 and was a huge Triumph fan when they were at their height. Question: Have you seen, heard Rik Emmitt lately? He’s in his 70’s and can still play and sing. He’s not able to hit and sustain the same notes he used to but he still sounds good. He has numerous videos here on KZbin. Great video, Great channel, “liked” and “subscribed”
