I was in France in 1998. There were a couple of songs that played every day. I didn’t understand the words but the phrasing was catchy. I left the country not knowing who it was. I was in Turkey buying rugs in 2000. I became friends with one of the shop workers. We would sit around drinking apple tea trying to come to an agreement on prices. He would talk about Turkey and we were looking for points of shared interest. He asks if I knew Tarkan. He considered him the most famous person in Turkey. I didn’t. He was surprised and made a kiss kiss sound. That catchy sound was from one of the songs I remembered from France. I went down the street and bought a bootleg copy of the album. It was a trip down memory lane of a wonderful time in France. One of my friends from that trip had died in 1999. The song brings back memories of her and France and my friend from Turkey. Tarkan Kiss Kiss

Hello as some others said he is called "megastar" in Turkey, he was the biggest pop icon in 90s and 00s. His name is pronounced like tar-cannes(just like the French city that is famous for its film festivals). Everyone in Turkey would still know his name. General concensus is his late work is not as good, people either still like his songs because he is Tarkan or not. If you would check out more from him, I would suggest from his earlier work in 90s, "Ölürüm Sana" or "Kış Güneşi" would be good candidates. Loved it, love your channel

I think his latest album is one of his best since karma apart from the 4 poppy songs which I’ve never liked that much! I’ve been a huge fan since 1992-4 I’m not a fantastic but I think Tarkan has the most beautiful voice in Turkish music!
@secpozzКүн бұрын
He was (and maybe is) the best male singer in Turkey. He was one of the popstars who started his career in early 90’s. His first album was good but the second (1994 aacayipsin), third (1997 ölürüm sana) and fourth albums (2001 karma) were extremely good and he put the bar so high with these ones. No one ever came close to them. A “megastar” nick was given to him, which is well earned and completely deserved. His albums between 2001-2010 were ok but still, they were nowhere near his 90’s. His 2010-2020 era is like a decline. Tarkan still has a beautiful, soft, velvety voice; he can sing in multiple rhytyms, languages, and genres. My top 5 tarkan songs are; Kış güneşi Biz nereye İkimizin yerine Gitti gideli Ay

I was teaching at a high school in the USA, two girls (one from Kyrgizistan and one from Peru) came to me as they knew I was from Turkey and asked me " Do you know Tarjan?" I said, no. They were shocked "How can't you know him, he is a singer from Turkey?" Then I understood, what they meant and corrected them "He is TARKAN and I love him." You cannot imagine how much they were happy to have a teacher who is from their favourite singer's country. And also I was happy to have such a big star who was known in Asia and South America... Btw, to me his best song is Kış Güneşi (Winter Sun). You had better listen to it...
