Diana Ankudinova has power, range, control, emotion and stage presence of a very high standard, but add her unique timbre to that and you have someone utterly unique. Yes, her vocal coach says she has by no means reached her full potential yet. She's been taking the Internet by storm for the last 4 years (she's now 18). Welcome to the journey! Diana Ankudinova was 18 when this performance took place. This cover of Elvis Presley's, Can't Help Falling In love" now belongs to her and it really demonstrates that Diana Ankudinova has a true contralto sound which as you know is a rare female voice type. In particular, the tone quality, timbre, the roundness of her sound, her resonance, and the depth of her voice, I think, further define her as a "dramatic contralto", the rarest of the rare contraltos. Diana is also a real polyphonic singer which in itself is also a rare talent and is a vocal technique that creates two different tones at the same time which makes it sound like two different voices at the same time. This polyphonic technique and sound are why some people mistakingly think she is using a voice synthesizer or vocoder or something else to manipulate her sound, or perhaps another person is singing off stage in the background, or she is singing over a pre-recorded track, which she is not. To get a better idea of Diana's vocal progression I recommend you listen to these live performances done during talent competitions. I think these are the best representations showing her vocal progression and I would recommend them in the following order: 1) "Dernière Danse". A cover of Indila sung in French. 2) "Rechen'ka". A Russian folk song sung in Russian. 3) "Wicked Game". A Chris Isaak cover sung in Englis. 4) "Human". A Rag'n'Bone Man cover sung in English. 5) "Can't Help Falling in Love". A cover of Elvis Presley was recorded last year. Listen to 1 through 4 then go back and listen to "Can't Help Falling In Love" again to get a sense of how far vocally she has come. Do you want to see Diana in a more stripped-down setting? A cover of A-Ha's "Take On Me" is a good example. There is only a backing track and Diana is providing the vocals. You can see by her microphone work there is no sound engineer equalizing the sound here. I am looking forward to the day when Diana eaches full vocal maturity because when she does and has more years of voice training with her voice teacher plus several more years to hone her on-stage performance skills, there will be no doubt that Diana Ankudinova will be a wonder to behold and a vocal force to be reconded with. Finally, this competition is called the "ShowMaskGoOn". and the "Can't Help Falling in Love" Elvis Presley cover by Diana was being judged by a panel that are all professional singers in their own right and they are competing and judging each other. By the way, the judge on the top row that stands up is a famous opera singer that's well known in Russia and the blond woman in the red dress that looks totally shocked and puts both hands on the top of her head knows she has to compete with Diana Ankudinova. Hello Bethany, thank you for your fine reaction. Diana's background: Diana was born in the Far East of Russia. She was severely abused as a small child and abandoned on the street by her birth mother in winter when she was only 3 years old with a broken collarbone. She was then taken to an orphanage where, after more than one year, she was adopted by Irina Ponik, a massage therapist. At the age of four and a half, Diana still could not speak properly. She also stuttered. Experts recommended that she take singing lessons to improve her general speaking and vocal skills. Yes, she is a contralto and she is also polyphonic. This is a new TV show in Russia, you know. There are 9 weeks with 9 shows and 9 well known artists. Diana is the youngest artist. They had to sing songs from 9 genres. The last TV show was on 20. November 2021. The 9 artists are also the judges for the other singer. And Diana (18 yo) won the overall competition of which Diana won 4 and took 2nd place once. She shocked the other singers with the first song. The Crow was her masterpiece in this competition, in my opinion. The judge who stands up is the great opera singer Yusif Eyvazov and the husband of Anna Netrebko, who is world famous. He's very impressed. Such an amazing talent from a 18 year old that has been performing on stage since she was around 6 years old, and very talented then. She has had vocal training from a very young age. She was given singing lessons to help her talk. So, she basically learned to sing before she could talk properly. Her version of a Russian folk song “Rechenka”at the age of 14, is truly outstanding. Something without a microphone, well, she sends out little clip videos of her singing some popular songs, “way down we go” is one that I can recall off-hand. I think it was recorded on a cell phone? Her version of two Russian pop hits are worthwhile; “Momma I’m Dancing” and “Crow”. You will find so many on her KZbin Channel. Welcome! Who is Diana Ankudinova? Diana was born in May 2003 in the Far East of Russia. (Height: 1,70 m/ 5,7” ) She didn't have a happy start in life. The woman who gave birth to her had many pregnancies, only Diana survived ... and she abused the child and tried to drown it. One day this 3 year old child was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and taken to an orphanage. There she finally found love ... by Irina Ponik, a massage therapist who treated the children from the children's home. Diana came to a poor but loving family when she was 5 years old. Diana spoke badly, cried a lot and was still very scared, but she could all sing songs from cartoons. A doctor recommended singing lessons. And so, the singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And all started … Diana has something primal, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and she lives her songs. Diana is a dramatic contralto, the rarest and lowest female voice type (her range C3-D6). Diana's voice also sometimes has a polyphonic undertone. You hear: Her voice sounds an octave below the singing voice. (But not everyone can hear that.) Diana also has a perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm was exceptional even as a little girl. Diana impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions. In 2018 and 2019 Diana entered a unique competition and won twice. This project is unique in the world, an international TV- competition: 'You are Super', especially for adopted and orphaned children. The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote and the final took place in the Kremlin Palace and her videos were uploaded to KZbin and soon she had millions of fans. The project producers help the finalists start their studies and encourage their creativity. Diana won a scholarship. Igor Krutoy, here as a juror, gave her a small apartment (37m²/398,26 ft²) in Moscow. I am an 87 year old classically trained singer & have been following Diana Ankudinova since the age of 5. Her back story .is interesting! She was adopted from the age of 5 and is the product of an alcoholic Russian mother and an Inner Mongolian father. She is a natural Contralto. When we sing, the sound we hear is not the only thing happening. There .is also an electronic wave that we can not hear but contributes to voice temberl. Diana has a very heavy powerful tember because the unheard electronic waves include all the natural octaves of the voice. I have never heard any singer with this, so her voice is very unique. She is now 19.

Watch her in a room by herself just singing: There is almost such a setting in her performance of Finnicky Horses, a small stage, small audience, a microphone and a speaker. Other notable performances of her are Rechenka and Wicked Game, when she was 14 and 15 years old, respectively. Her voice was already there, and in Rechenka, she shows almost shamanic qualities.

Эта искушённая дама правильно уловила важнейшее свойство данного исполнения Дианы (впрочем, это касается и других песен Дианы Анкудиновой) - точную связанность частей композиции, без лишнего украшательства и попыток просто произвести впечатление. Она каждый раз тщательно строит очередное здание, от фундамента до высокого шпиля; и вы никогда не увидите красивых колонн, висящих в воздухе без опоры (как у некоторых других певцов). Поэтому каждый раз это производит впечатление полной законченности, почти совершенства. Она могла бы и в этой песне ещё много чего показать - но всё было подчинено решению конкретных художественных задач, без дополнительной демонстрации вокальных возможностей. Разумеется, цель произвести сильное впечатление стояла - и была успешно решена - но и эта демонстрация силы была полностью подчинена решению именно эстетических задач. При знакомстве с некоторыми другими песнями Дианы вы сможете услышать, как она порой сильно себя ограничивает, чтобы остаться в пределах, задаваемых содержанием песни, посланием, которое в ней содержится...

This was one side of Diana - we know she has many more sides so as a diamond. It is up to you to discover this. What I don't like is that some people compare Diana to Dimash. This is a wrong way. Dimash seems like somebody for a circus competition to me... But only Diana can touch our souls with her songs.
