@@toygrind Speaking of feedback, since I completely agree with Nebula's comment, I have a different bit of model-related advice for you regarding sticker-placement (apologies in advance if you are already aware of this but,): using a wooden toothpick to not only assist with precision when putting it in place, but also smoothing out the sticker after its been applied, has worked absolute wonders for me when it comes to building Gunpla. I'm not sure if it would translate over to these Kabaya kits, but hey- I figured I'd at least suggest it to you.🤝

So glad you share my thoughts on the modern Menasor and Superion, I thought I was going crazy. They're literally not combiners, they're just Commander-class bots you can stitch some smaller bots onto purely for aesthetics. SS86 Devastator is thankfully not using this system, but he has another problem in that he's nowhere near as big as he should be. He's barely taller than Optimus. The Constructicons should be Voyagers and Leaders, not Deluxes and Voyagers. Deluxe Bonecrusher looks like a Happy Meal toy. Holding out for a Studio Series Gamer Edition FOC Bruticus, hopefully that will sate my weirdly high and specific combiner needs lol

Studio Series RotF Devastator is the peak combiner for now, if your main focus with combiners is that they be free of combiner kibble. He's got a grand total of a SINGLE piece of combiner kibble, no other combiner has that few extra parts. I don't mind the frame system for scramble city combiners because all of them relied on extra parts already, both as toys and show models. If the current toyline's objective is to faithfully recreate them, then they HAVE to use extra parts. Asking hastak to do accurate scramble city combiners that scale correctly in robot and combined modes, at retail price, without relying on extra parts is literally asking for the impossible.

@@MrRcn23 For me, I'm not too concerned about any kind of _accuracy,_ as long as they look cool and resemble the characters. For the most part, I'm actually really happy with the Combiner Wars incarnations (I do have the Takara version of Computron). That said, the Legacy Stunticons actually worked for me, but I don't think the same is true of what I've seen from the Aerialbots, so I'll likely be skipping them. I see we have a Vortex coming in wave two, so I'm gonna play wait-and-see there; I do love my CW Bruticus, but I'm curious how this new version looks, it's a definite possibility.

@@Brickerbrack I suspect you'll want to hold on to your CW Bruticus, because everything points to the frame becoming standard for the special teams. Menasor was the weakest of the CW Combiners in my opinion, so it makes sense you liked the new one despite the frame. These things are cyclical though: I'm sure that now that they're doing the combiners putting scale and accuracy first and foremost, if they ever do them again they'll prioritize integration like in CW. I like both systems so I'm happy either way, but since they already favored integration back in CW I'm glad accuracy is the priority this time around, because that way we get more distinct toys. My favourite combiner so far is the aforementioned RotF Devastator, but I'm also really looking forward to seeing what they do with G1 Devastator and Bruticus.

The MMC Assaultus has all of the combiner parts incorporated into the separate bots. It's Some form of black magic how they did that AND made them look great in all 3 modes, but they're about 5% less complicated than a real transformer would be so I'll probably never take my set out of combined mode.

I have a bunch of these Kabaya & other candy-toy kits, they're always very faithful to the originals (aesthetics-wise that is, transforming is usually pretty partsformer-y) & good for some kitsch fun! I find a quick wash with dish soap & warm water before beginning goes a long way to preparing the surface for the stickers to adhere to more reliably. I then use a pair of toothpicks to manipulate the sticker, can usually line things up better than with my fingers. For the stickers that go over molded details, I flex & soften the tip of a toothpick a little & use it to gently scribe the sticker into the detail. For the bits that are still stubborn about adhering, or is starting to peel from handling due to location, the tiniest bit of crazy glue, applied with a toothpick & letting capillary action draw it along the sticker's edge, then gently pressed down into place, should do the trick. I'm always impressed how accurate the sticker details line up with the molded detail. Lined up right & done carefully, looks better than they deserve to! I didn't know these kits were out there, thank you! You should also check out Bandai's Machine Robo Mugenbine kits 🤘😎

@@NemesisTomato i try to just bend the tip against the desk a little & get some fibers to splay out, almost like a stiff paintbrush with a firm core.. if it's too pointy you risk tearing through the printed layer... carefully though, the layer can actually stretch down into the molding a bit, & if lined up well, could fool someone it was paint.. if things didn't line up well, or there's an oops, i just try to stay wabi-sabi about it 😅

When I need to put stickers on a kit, I use a little cutter knife (you can use an exacto knife too) to lift the sticker off the sheet, with a bit of overhang, so my finger grease doesn't get on the glue. You can maneuver the sticker, press a corner down and jut slide the blade off. it usually works well. You can use toothpicks if you need to press it into a weird shape. Admitedly stickers are a pain :p Lightning was great!

This is honestly one of my favorite video formats you do, the vibe is all there and chill (when the build isn't confounding the brain too much), plus I bet most people just like hearing about your thoughts. Also yeah totally with you on how they're now doing the Combiners, and it really shows off how sticking by G1 and especially the Sunbow cartoon to a fault isn't always good, since they lose out on the big gimmick of the OG toys, where a limb can be an arm or a leg. Structurally I get it, but I am not happy with the extra crap Silverbolt needs just to function.

Right always love a build video, just nice listening to thew talking about things he love, For the setup I would recommend a mat or cover to help contrast the figure as Plain light wood against small. White pieces aren't the best. I would also move the camera down a bit further So you wouldn't have to Hold up the pieces That high and it would help keep the build in frame For model techniques I would recommend some tweezers for the stickers and some Q-Tips to smoothing the edges of sticker when it has been applied, helps make it look better

People like to say that Transformers started overloading the line with gimmicks in 87, with the headmasters and targetmasters, but they started it earlier in 1986 with the whole Scramble City gimmicks, which weren't even fully advertised by the toys themselves!

if I recalled correctly the 30th Anniversary Kabaya Combiners have their limbs being a mix of old characters with new characters made exclusively for these kits hence this Superion has a tank dude as one of his limbs, they are also Yuusha/Brave series inspired too being given "Gundam-like" designs.

My best friend just bought the universe ultra class one for my Christmas present which I'm super excited for! I absolutely love silverbolts design and the attempts to flatten it out over the years, the engineering possibilities fascinate me. I'm totally down for the new one thats coming up but the whole combiner can do one, I don't do combiners, its all about the team of bots for me! And I love jetformers too much to leave them stuck to a big bot forever

In October, I built the Master Grade Extreme Strike Freedom Gundam and Real Grade RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 2.0. Both models are very complex because I needed to build the full inner frame, assemble the armor on top, and build the backpacks and weapons. They are way more complex than the HG IBO kits. I love the finished models; the builds were very smooth despite being so complex.

A bit of advice should you do some more sticker heavy kits. I find using a toothpick to extract and place the stickers really helps, especially with smaller ones. The point allows for more precise placement and the stickers tend not to stick to wood nearly as much as they do plastic (,or you).

I didn't know the G1 Aerialbots notoriously crumbled. One of my work colleagues actually gave me a boxed G1 Superion. He told me that he got it for christmas shortly after he started to grow out of transformers, and it had just been in his attic for thirty years. If they crumble easily, they can stay in their box.

While I was hesitant at the non-Scramble City style of Legacy Menasor, I do actually really like how he came out, and yes, it does feel like an improvement to me over the Combiner Wars Stunticons. From what I've seen of the Aerialbots, though, I don't feel that need to replace the CW lot. The Commander Class figure's bulk-out parts seem pretty redundant, and make for a pretty unnecessarily chonky-looking Superion... 9:10 I've got to admit, I think this is one of those cases where I'd opt to _paint_ a lot of the details to _replicate_ the colour blocks they're adding... 10:45 Too late to take it back. Posts are now "stooples". 11:30 The original Bolty has a hole in his stomach that the chest plate pegs into. 13:20 I duuno, that sticker looked like a delightfully goofy grin _before_ you put it on, so I have to believe it's intentional... 15:50 Or Micromaster Sixjet/Superion, with all the spare combiner bits making a plane... 17:00 Yeah, G1 lad has that Metroplex-interplay base mode too, though I don't recall folding the forearms out; I think that's just to make room for his legs on this one.

For me the Legacy system only really works where it feels unfeasible to make an animation accurate model from the toys. Menasor obviously needed that more than any other combiner. but Superion? I don't get why he needed it

I actually broke my Combiner Wars Silverbolt! While I was transforming him into combined mode the hinge of the panel that the combined mode head sits on broke and Superion's head came off. I was able to fix it but, it still bugged me so I eventually ended up selling him.

WoW! That is high grade plastic. If that tiny bit of plastic was on a scale model. It would explode (well split in two) with the tension between the piece and spue as you snipped it off. Mind you that is a Japanese model. When it comes to making moulding and tooling; they are not next level; it is an evolution apart when compared to the westerners and Chinese and everybody else (mind you the Chinese are growing exponentially, compared to everyone else, they are still behind the west but they are catching up really quickly) When it comes to model kits.

Gotta agree, CW Superion is still good and fine, he was really one of the best combiners in the whole Prime Wars line, especially if you had the upgrade hands and feet. The AOTP one by comparison looks pretty junky.

the skeleton system works to make a more accurate and more importantly a more solid and articulated combiner, but while I much prefer the CW system, CW is still pretty damn good to this day and doesn't need an upgrade really, so having a different option built differently is very interesting imo, options.

Combiners are always going to be compromise somewhere between aesthetics, function and price. Combiner Wars era were 100% going for function, with each limb being essentially a quad changer (vehicle, robot, arm, or leg) and going full scramble city. But the aesthetics faltered with very samey robot modes, and really strained combined modes for many of them, Menasor especially. It's clear that HasTak are prioritizing the Vehicle, Robot and Combined mode aesthetics for the new Versions, making the combined mode look good and be screen accurate to the original at the expense of simplified combining as a gimmick. I understand people not liking the idea; I don't know if it's "cheating" per se when combiners have always required extra kibble to make the hands and feet work anyway, but i do get wanting the limbs to made up of the robot themselves. I just don't think the complexity and parts=count of a deluxe scale limb is going to cut it to make that work. I can't help but feel like a mass market store release budget can't get the aesthetic and function to where they need to be to do it, that might be Masterpiece territory. I like the new combiners, and I'll be picking them up to go with my CW, but totally get anyone who wants to keep the CW versions as their definitive.
