Hi Guys, funny thing that during the editing process Step 4 has disappeared :) SORRY! I have it written here for you: - Fourth: speed and coordination are essential in our job! You can run fast as usain bolt, but if you don’t coordinate your running it will be without result! If you bring food to a table, make sure you look around and find something to remove and help your head server by cleaning other tables. If a guests ask you for something, look around for the other guests and give them a chance to order something too, or you will come back and they will order then and you have to run again! And when you go to the kitchen or the bar make sure you don’t go empty, clean everything you can and use the trip to help yourself! All this comes with experience and time, but it is a good thing to learn it in advance and practice it as soon as you hit the floor! It will help you tremendously and you will be accepted by the other waiters easier!

My approach to first days on new jobs: You are there to make the team better, so find ways to be an asset and show that your attitude and approach can bring value if allowed the opportunities. Communicate what you dont know, or any questions you have, then execute. HELP! Do you want people to train you? Help them. Show them that the more you know how to do, the more help you are going to be to them. If possible, go to the place of business prior to your first shift. Sit and watch. Look at the flow of their system. Look at their customer service. Look at how their stations are set-up. Study what they sell (menu, drinks, entertainment. etc.) Conduct yourself in a manner that will allow you future opportunities. The Restaurant/Bar business has high turnover. Maybe in the first week you realize that the restaurant is not ran correctly. Remember that the people you are working with could be the next hiring manager at a different restaurant. Conduct yourself correctly and people will take notice. #makemoretips #howtopayyourrent #waitertips #makedrinks

I just got a minijob as a waiter at a restaurant nearby so I'm trying to learn from watching your videos, but sadly whenever I take the initiative to do something independently at the job I'm scolded for it, so I just do what they say for now as it seems they really don't trust or want me to do things they haven't explicitly told me to. :( I learned how to carry 3/4 plates at home, but I'm afraid they wouldn't let me if I tried.
@TheWaitersAcademy5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeremy! As a new waiter you should refrain from taking steps or action out of the ordinary! They don't trust you yet and you get scold at! Take your time! I work in a hotel and the buffet is now a la cart it's really hard because the host just take guests and put in the station and it no reservations made they just come down what can we do to make it better
@TheWaitersAcademy4 жыл бұрын
The first thing you could do is tell the host or the hosts to split the guests evenly between stations! One guest for you, then the next to the next station and the next to the next station! This way by the time it is your turn to get a new guest, you will be able to at least start serving the previous one! The next thing you could do is to tell the host that when you are busy, they have to help you, not just bring the guests to the table and leave! In the rush hours the host could bring the guests, then give them the menu and even open a bottle of water for them! This will make the guests happy and calm and give you more time to finish your tasks! Plus it will slow down the sitting a bit as well! Next thing is to learn how to work the tables in bunches! Like they are one big party! If the host has brought to your station 3 tables at the same time, you work with them like they are together one big party! Check the post on the Waiters Academy how to do that! Other than that, there is nothing you could do to stop the guests coming :) It is good that you have guests and make sure you don't get mad at them! It is not their fault! Learn to be fast, to prioritze and don't forget that this rush hour is only about....2-3 hours at most! It will go away! So keep breathing and keep smiling at your guests!

@TheWaitersAcademy6 жыл бұрын
Masum Khan, tattoos are problem for some companies but not for all! maybe as a waiter it will be harder to get a job if you have too many tattoos on your hands. Still, I have seen everything. It is not impossible! Cruise lines those days are really having trouble finding quality workers so I would guess it is your best shot to get a job abroad! Try with agencies and try directly to the companies! Search in google for "cruise line companies" and find their websites and apply directly! It is still a hard work and a long shot but you have to go for it if you want to get the job! try to get any job and then once on the ship you can change departments an d start working as a waiter! Good luck!

It is basically how effcient you are! Never make empty trips to the kitchen or back to your station! Organize yourself, so you are not wasting time in empty motions or movements! Know what is the next right step and if you can combine two steps! We are always short on time and this is important to keep up with all the tables at the same time!
@jkris2057 жыл бұрын
Here's one tip for you beginners:Never ask a guest ordering a tequila if he,or maybe she want ice in their tequila,for your guest could be someone like me,who will not only not give you any tip,but will also verbally express his/her displeasure over your professional ignorance!?Sorry but when I pay $250 for the supper for two,I get sensitive about these details!!!
@TheWaitersAcademy7 жыл бұрын
jkris205, that's actually pretty good tip! :)
@loudmindpro88647 жыл бұрын
That is a good tip. However, I can't help but take this opportunity (since you are not sitting at a table I'm serving) to say that anybody who sits down for a $250 dinner and doesn't tip, provided nothing went very seriously wrong, is the absolute worst type of customer. To quote yourself, "don't take an arrogant advantage of their ignorance." Sure, make your condecending comment and even tip less but nothing at all is just rotten.
@TheWaitersAcademy7 жыл бұрын
ScorpioSun26, in the States not getting tip at all is very rear unless the guests are from Europe or Asia but for example right now in Europe I have tables with over 1000 euro check that don't a penny! It is a different system and culture! In Italy and France they don't tip at all, no matter the size of the bill! That's why I love America before all :)
@jkris2057 жыл бұрын
A brilliant comment!I just came from 2 weeks on an all inclusive resort in Mexico!I always take $100 just for the tips $10 each for supper service,and my girlfriend leaves a $1each time at the bar!?Knowing that we are ones of the few,if not the only ones,by observation,tipping those hard working people,I am very sympathetic to your profession,and strongly believe in a positive reinforcement,not just in the hospitality business,but everywhere else,where it's deserved!?Good luck,and don't give up!?Find a place with the educated,middle class clientele,you might get luckier!?
@jkris2057 жыл бұрын
I'm from Europe myself,and would tend to agree with you totally!?If you can afford a drink,or a supper,there is no excuse to live some money as a tip behind!?I'm surprised about the French,Germans are the cheapest,and us Slovenians are the best,and most appreciative guests,followed by the rest of the Yugoslavian region!?That's how it was when I was still there!?
