This tunnel is pretty awesome. And I didn't see any graffiti... that was nice. The drone was fun.

As of May 2024 visitors began leaving their personal marks inside the tunnel. We visit several times a month from fall to spring. We have noticed more trash being left as well. A portion of the tunnel has also collapsed inside and a small hole is starting to allow light in.

I have been told by locals that the pronunciation you want is "Kahn-a-cuh-hague". The railroad was the 3 ft. gauge Newport & Shermans Valley which ran from Newport on the Juniata to New Germantown. There are a few of its depots still around at New Germantown and a beautiful restoration at Blain (also a cool arch bridge!). The tunnel was supposed to take trains down into the Path Valley and eventually to Hancock, MD. Tunnel work was halted in 1894; the N&SV died 40 years later.

You say old Railroad, even the ones that never got built, you get my attention. Thanks Cliff. Oh, that gap in the old road bed is most likely where they were going to build a trestle. Just my thought.

The drone did a very good job and that was beautiful. Please do something for yourself please. stop talking down about yourself you are a good person. And you are doing something I will never be able to do. And I enjoy it very much. I can no longer walk like that anymore. Taking care of a man who was in a wheelchair, and he and he weighed 450 lb. I took care of him by myself. My dear loving departed husband.We had 43 yrs. Stop please stop talking down about yourself. Lady from Oklahoma

If you ever get a chance when you're in Lancaster, head towards Greendragons farmers market which is open on Fridays. There's some awesome abandoned train tracks in the fields with an old abandoned tunnel. used to play back there as a kid. There's a tiny creek. Follow that away from the bigger creek. And you'll come across an abandoned tunnel. I love seeing old remnants of train tracks.

Now I can say from experience, I've really enjoyed the abandoned Pennsylvania train tunnels I was privileged to visit this year. What a great experience, not to mention cool....in more than one way. Guess I'll add this one to my list of things to see when I get back to your state! 😊 thanks, Cliff!

I was at that tunnel about 2 years ago. I am happy I am seeing what it looks like all the way in. The day I was there it was EXTREMELY humid and I had just a headlamp with me. Only made it halfway in. Thank you

The view from the back of the tunnel to the outside in the distance is fantastic ! This was a really cool hike. Pennsylvania woods are magical. I grew up playing in them and have never lost the thrill of discovery. And your drone video from the vista -- WOW ! Funny, just before you launched into the drone sequence, I was thinking to myself: 'I wonder what happened to Cliff's drone?' LOL !

I drank from that exact water spring before. It's filtered naturally from the minerals in the ground. Someone was there filling up 30 jugs. He said he does it once a month. I love it out there. It gets weird out there. You totally missed the rock balancing someone made at the entrance of the tunnel. It looked awesome - I always try it but I suck.

Great video and digging on this series, cheers to the viewer who got that for him and something beats nothing, but the manufacturer should be ashamed at the quality and the props being in the shot. Keep up the great work.Thumbs up as always! I really want to know who it is that thumbs down these videos.

Is the spring a flooded mine shaft? Or a horse trough? 🐴 Was the tunnel portal dynamited to close it? 🚂 Great #drone clip 👍
@thewanderingwoodsman72274 жыл бұрын
The spring is just a natural spring. The portal is still open, no dynamite was used.

Do you know what kind of rock that is in the tunnel? It's so white and shiny. Quartz maybe? I can't get over how nice the roads are in the state parks there. State park roads here in MI are mostly sand and either washed out or have huge deep ruts from the 4 wheel drive vehicles sinking in. I think I want to move to PA. lol
@thewanderingwoodsman72274 жыл бұрын
No quartz, lots of sandstone most likely.

Just curious...why does the sign say don't drink the water? Is the state worried about pathogens or something?
@R.C.11614 жыл бұрын
Heavy metals? Western USA it is a issue. Filtered in PA its usually just fine. Most of the time if you are at the spring source, just drink it.

That tunnel doesn't look safe. I can't believe that it isn't blocked off from the public. You go into dangerous looking places. Your films are great. Be careful.
