I have a question regarding the anti tanks gun. If i sat them up in the initial phase (bushes) and toggle the stay concealed button and toggel fire at will off, how much more stealth do i get ? Is there some basic number of how close the enemy can come before they see my paks ? Does this also work in the open, to a lesser extent ?

With the acknowledged learning curve of this game, anyone who buys it and doesn't watch this first is putting themselves through a lot of unnecessary angst. 10/10 .... really great job! P.S. I LOVE how you emphasize the Pre-Deployment planning and orders. So many of the GT:MF videos here show players trying to play it as a click fest, and then wondering what happens when units stop responding later. One cool tip that isn't mentioned in this tutorial is you can actually reuse the trenches left behind from previous engagements! Even if your unit isn't dug in, simply placing a squad on or right next to the tile of an existing trench during Deployment and ordering them to Prepare Ambush causes them to re-dig that trench. Of course, pay attention to the type of trench as field guns, support weapons and squads all use different trench layouts.

I'm trying out the quick battle "Active Defence" just to get a feel for the game, and it has an indirect fire team set up with the spotting commander and the wire layers in a different group from the artillery. There's another commander hanging out with the artillery and he is able to spot and direct fire, but the spotting commander farther up (who is identified by the game's opening scripting as the guy who is supposed to be spotting once the phone wire is laid) is never able to direct fire: the icon is grayed out. It stays this way even after the wire laying group has the "link established" event. I'm sure I'm not understanding something here but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is. Any ideas would be appreciated! (I've watched the indirect on-map artillery section a few times to see if I've missed anything.)

great work. I would like to know more about the fire control button ( gear head ). Its true meaning and correct use , if possible thanks
@TheWarSimmer6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The gear head/fire control button just allows units to RECEIVE indirect fire commands from command units. By default, this is set the way you would usually want to use. Mortars, on map arty etc will have it checked, so when a command unit issues an order to fire on an area, they will. Command units themselves should NOT have this button checked- only the subordinate indirect fire units themselves. The only time you may want to UNCHECK this on indirect fire units is when you have low ammo, and do not want them to fire if the bar is only 25% full due to it being inaccurate. You can uncheck it, wait until it fills up to a higher number i.e. 100%, and then check it again.
@TheWarSimmer6 жыл бұрын
The uturn button (ai control) will make units attempt to return to within range of their command unit if they become separated from them. This will allow them to receive orders again. There are times when I UNCHECK this button, specifically with machine gun units. Often times, you will have a sparse defense, and want to spread a 5 squad MG platoon across the entire map in pre-deployment and hold a defensive position. If you place them, then start combat and the box is checked, they will start running from their defensive positions trying to get to their commander.
@Robscottmellor6 жыл бұрын

@@Robscottmellor One more thing to add... It's a good idea to not mess too much with the singular mortar squads that are part of an infantry platoon. Usually you just want to move them as part of the platoon, and the platoon command and the squad will fire mortars etc automatically. Good luck!

@downtango15276 жыл бұрын
Amazing tutorial! Save me from endless confusion. Why didn't I find this video earlier? But I still have some questions: Is it possible that the front line commanders calls for fire themselves? Like, I have a group of 82cm mortars who have only one commander and no phone cable squad. Is it possible that other commanders like company leader or battalion leader could make the mortars shoot the indirect fire automatically, by running towards the mortars to tell them where to fire at, or by any other ways? Sorry if my English is hard to understand.
@TheWarSimmer6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nuru. Are you asking if mortar teams attached to platoons can fire on their own? Yes, they can and will. Just move them as part of the platoon and the commander will have them laying down fire automatically during attacks etc. You can also have the platoon commander order a specific spot to be fired on like other indirect fire teams, but for the ones that are a part of the platoon, it's best to not worry about it.
@downtango15276 жыл бұрын
@@TheWarSimmer No, I am asking the mortar company, usually equipped with 82cm mortars. I don't know how to use it effectively, for it can't communicate by telephone. And 82cm mortars are too heavy to charge into battles, like mortar teams who attached to platoons do. Also, about the on-map artillery. Even if I took exactly every step you told in this video. There are times that some of the guns in battery (sometimes all of them) won't fire. The ammo is full and command link established with no problem. Sometimes the gun barrel has raised and status shows "firing", but it just won't actually fire. Why is that?
@gunnerr84766 жыл бұрын
You sure your on-map artillery has fire control box checked? If some of them didnt fire, that means they might have something blocking the gun, or could be you ordered your artillery to shoot short range target. Try giving a long range fire, like more than 500m. There is an error in his video too, it suppose to be the Commander platoon acting a spotter, NOT the firing platoon. Firing platoon are the one who "fire" the gun, they are the one who should be place near the guns. You must make sure every wire is linked to all three commanders. The common organization is 1 Commander platoon(spotter), 2 firing platoon, and 4 guns. 2 guns for each firing platoon, that why they already placed it in orderly manner in the unit tab on bottom of the screen. Wire does not matter if your commander is near the guns, they can give shouting order.
@TheWarSimmer6 жыл бұрын
@@downtango1527 I haven't played in a while, are you sure the 82s don't have firing teams attached to them like other indirect arty? As far as sometimes not firing, if your box is checked, it almost always means there is an obstruction. It may not be obvious at first- it could be something as simple at the incline of a hill crossing path with their lof. In my own video around the 35 minute mark, the arty barely had a line of fire over the slope.

I have been selecting an Arty Spotter for Off-map artillery but they do not work at all? I positioned them with 100% eyes on target area and concealed them but i don't even get the Artillery options menu in the top right corner of the screen at all? The one where you select Immediate, Type of round, number of rounds etc. Have tried numerous maps, numerous sides (USSR, Germany etc) But at the moment i can not get Off-map to work? On map artillery works just fine though. Thanks again for a brilliant tutorial video! Subbed!
@TheWarSimmer5 жыл бұрын
Glad it helped. As far as off map arty in battle editors, you need to place a unit that can call "reinf. support" (usually command units). Once they are on the map, hold the CTRL button and click the unit and a toolbox will open on the right side of the screen. For reinforcement strategy click until it cycles to the the reinf. support and you should have the unit available. If you can't do this, the unit doesn't have the option for off map.

@@TheWarSimmer Thanks very much for the reply. So i did as you said and upon placing a Command unit on the map and choosing reinf. support from the options in the toolbox it said that command unit had an artillery spotter in its orbat. Question #1: Does off-board artillery represent a unit that is simply off-screen on the strategic map or is it just an abstract representation of artillery that is somewhere miles away? Just wondering how it might affect the availability and supply of artillery units that might have to support other battles during the same turn/phase. Question #2:When deploying trucks at the beginning of a battle, you mentioned positioning them near your guns if you wanted to be able to relocate the guns more quickly. However, is it better to position them far away (in order to keep them out of the line of enemy fire) if you think they won't be needed for gun relocation? Or will that have an effect on their mobility after the battle during the strategic phase? I've owned several Graviteam Tactics games for years now and have only made a few attempts to play them due to their seeming complexity. I am getting the itch to play this amazing looking game again and during my searches for help I stumbled upon a post that highly recommended your videos. I must say that I'm really liking what I'm seeing so far! I REALLY want to get into this game and so far you have clarified so much of what before seemed nearly indecipherable.
