Never feel weird about calling your Dad "Dad". There will come a time when you sorely wish you could still do just that...

Great stuff. If you have some 'bits' left over, they can be used to generate income. In a few minutes, one can make a boot-pulling plate to go outside the front door - they sell at the local car-boot sale for a fiver, and frankly, they are pretty poor - I'm sure you could do better, for more money. I've just come back from a fab day behind 53808 at the MHR today - took my 14-year-old Grandson Ivo (yes, he really is Ivo) and he had a footplate ride on the loco as well. I can't tell you how happy it made him - and me too. As for working with your Dad; I was feeling a bit emotional watching you both because my dad and I had fun making stuff with him teaching me. He passed on my 32nd birthday... (I'm now 70)

We cut the original trunks on the racksaw shown, driven by Burrell 3935 “Surprise” built in 1922. Honoured to have been part of the process

Worryingly, I rather forgot that your instructor is called "Simon". To me, he will now forever be "Dad"!

Great video, fantastic workshop facilities. Shouldn't wear gloves when working these machines though, greatly magnifies the risk of hand entrapment. From a machine woodworker of 40 years experience.
