Perfectly said, I was GENUINELY just thinking this in my head. Was thinking of my brothers who are very new to production. I'm trying to show them ways to step into it without overwhelming them and then thought of how far I have came. That videos like this didn't appease to me and didn't make sense 6 or 7 years ago. Now they're the missing puzzle pieces I need to get the sound quality I want. Instantly subscribed to the WAV man when I found him. True GEM.

Use the clipper after the limiter, you’re shaving the peaks before you apply the threshold of the limiter, which is bringing your frequencies down in the entire mix, if you put the limiter first, the limiter will identify the highest peak you wan’t the mix to be referenced from and sound like, then add the clipper to shave the peaks and add digital distortion

This video is a life-saver. Kudos for the very easy to understand tutorial.

Really good trick that isn't talked about a lot on youtube, great video! The only thing I would change, is that I would compensate for the input gain you're driving into the clipper. Louder always sounds better, so compensating for that gain makes it a more even fight.
@jzilla_grudgegang2 жыл бұрын
Actually you can just limit and compress individual elements and then push it into the limiter. This isn’t unknown to do
@pipocosounds2 жыл бұрын
@@jzilla_grudgegang You're right I started doing this a year ago and it really works. I just don't see it being talked about a lot on youtube

In fact, pro L2 is a soft clipper, followed by a compressor. Attack time separates the clipper section from the compressor section, which uses release time. There's nothing wrong putting a clipper like IK's one before Pro L2 ! But thinking this way, you can set Pro L2 before Pro L2, tweak the first one and get the exact same results. If you, like me, always find these shitty IG sheets where they say "put two limiters in chain", or "use clipper/limiter/limiter/clipper"..etc The point is the same : clippers in chain, where you'll get more subtle results putting one before the other. It works fine for modern genres, although I encourage using different techniques too : tape saturation to round transients, real limiters (=vintage ones, think Neve limiters)..etc Great video, and always interesting topic
@radia9244 Жыл бұрын
limiters in chain is actually a good technique as long as you put different settings, if you just copy paste it its pointless

I personally do not recommend the T-racks Soft clipper, it does something weird with the low sub freq around 40hz and lower (it rolls them off without telling you, you can check in any frequency analyzer). The clipper going into the ProL2 is a good practice though, I've had fantastic results with this. StandardClip is better imo, and it has more oversampling :)
@stillgotyourmom2 жыл бұрын
I personally tried the trial version and couldnt get it very lower. Im using the usual garageband to mix with some wave plugs and also plugin alliances limiter mainly. Sometimes I put the garageband home limiter in between and it made more of a loudness job than this clipper even knowing that a clipper and limiter are differing but still!

I use the same plugin,but i avoid the indicator turn red 😅 because if i dont it sounds good on my 600 buck speaker 200 bucks headphone but distorbs on earpods/phones/cheaper systems. Then run it trough a own made preset from a plugin called raizor in cubase to get it a louder or trough shape shifter wich gives it a little but great boost.

@jnyce2832 жыл бұрын
I mean I just feel like your squashing (cutting off the peaks) the kick which in turn make more room for the rest to come up. better mixing and compression on the beat does the exact same with more control. and you should be leaving room for the mastering stage. understand this is hard to do without stems tho. good tut tho
