awesome images, quick question, is there any ferry boat from Lombok directly to Nusa Penida? or from Bali to Nusa Penida then directly to Lombok? or the only way to reach Nusa Penida is just from BALI? thanks a lot
@TheWayOverland6 жыл бұрын
Hi Sebastian 🙋🏼♀️ as far as I know the only ferry is from Padangbai in Bali. There’s also fast boats which leave from Sanur and potentially from Lombok as well.

I am planning to start a road trip around Australia and New Zealand. Afterwards I could imagine driving through Asia. I have a modified Nissan Patrol GQ and I wonder if that could give me any problems in Indonesia? Do you even have to follow their "rules" if you have a vehicle from overseas? Additionally it would like to get to know more about the paper work you have to do to export the car. Can you may do a video about that procedure and what you have to be aware of? Great videos, great channel - I just found you and will definitely follow your trip now!

Hey, Glad you like the videos and thanks for following along! You won't have any drama with the car except if you're looking for spares as we haven't seen a Patrol yet. The GQs are pretty solid though so I'm sure you'll be fine! As far as road rules, yes definitely you need to follow their rules just as you would from state to state in Aus. (It is questionable if there is actually rules here). As far as registration rules etc that all falls under the carnet. We're looking to do an episode shortly answering all the import sort of questions and others so stay tuned! Cheers

Thank you for your kind reply! Do you think it is better to do Overlanding with a Landcruiser than with a Patrol? I thought it would be just as popular, as it is in Australia - and both are Asian Brands. :-) Thank you for your advise! Additionally I would highly appreciate your feedback on the following questions: Is it difficult to get the papers to (temporarily) export a vehicle? Do you have to pass any road worthy? Does the condition of the vehicle matter? And how long does it take to get the export papers and what are the costs? Thank you so much and I am looking forward to see more videos from you and the Q and As! Cheers from Perth, Marius

Hey, To be honest, Patrol or Cruiser it doesn't really matter. It really just comes down to how adventurous you would like to be as to which vehicle you decide to go with. People do it in vehicles much less robust! As far as popularity, we've seen a lot of Cruisers (no troopies yet apart from other overlanders) and still no Patrols. Just because there is Cruisers though doesn't mean there's junkyards of wrecks around with spares like in Oz. I guess probably the only benefit is that there appears to be a lot more Toyota workshops around who would probably be more familiar with working on these vehicles. All in all this is only referring to a major fault requiring bigger parts/tools. We carry all minor spares and fluids and I complete the services. So if you're comfortable with this stick with the GQ, they're a good car. In regard to docs, a Carnet de Passage is required which involves obtaining an evaluation of the vehicle, current rego, completion of documents and photos of vehicle. The current rego ticks the roadworthy/condition box. ie. if it has passed the Australian registration inspection no other inspections are required. For the carnet to be valid the vehicle must have current registration, thankfully ours is registered in WA which doesn't require an inspection for registration renewal. The whole process is relatively straight forward and can be completed on line. Allow about 4 weeks to be safe. It costs $1400 of which $500 is refunded when the vehicle returned to the country of origin. We'll have the Q&A Ep up maybe after the next. Cheers 🙂

Toyota has more than 300 service centers across Indonesia and spare parts are widely available, so Toyota is the best bet for your adventure in Indonesia. But if you already have a Patrol, I believe Nissan can also cover your needs. I would recommend you to visit West Papua, Maluku, Sulawesi, East Kalimantan (East parts of Indonesia) besides Lombok, Bali, Java and Sumatra. You can check indonesiaferry.co.id (ASDP Indonesia) for list of ports in Indonesia for sea transport of vehicle/passengers.
