Connections in Latin | Alexey Silde

The Russian trainer Alexey Silde, a former World Champion together with his partner Anna Firstova, collaborated with the WDSF in producing this learning resource on connections in the Latin dances. For the short lecture, Alexey works together with Evgeny Kuzin and Ksenia Zaputriaeva, RUS, as the demonstrators.
The WDSF wishes to acknowledge the support of Alexey and his demonstrators Evgeny and Ksenia, as well as that of the the GOC organisers in providing the location in Stuttgart. Without their support, the YouTraining DanceSport programme would not be possible.

Rafael Colon recommended this to me. If I'm going to remember anything else, I will remember first connect with your center, then connect with your partner. And concept of diagonal through body, hey that is what gives the 3-dimensional you see in the pro dancers.

1ST the female Russian dancer is beautiful , wish she would have smiled once....Great lesson........ In American I would have use the dance " Bolero " as an example and The terminology 4 this connection I would phrase as ............." compression " & " Leverage "

Can somebody explain to me what diagonal mean?

The diagonal created in the musculature organizes and fires up the internal connection bringing the body into a powerful coil. Diagonal muscle fibers align around the torso (and in fact through the limbs as well) forming a double helix connecting the head to the pelvis. The spiral line is stretched as the pelvis is rotated, opening the hip, and the rib cage is anchored in opposition. Try twisting the right hip leftward and keeping the base of the right side of the rib cage stable or in an opposing energy. This coiling and unwinding happens subtly when we walk but is exaggerated and manipulated in dancing for beauty, style, and dynamics. You will feel the stretching of this line into the upper back and even into the neck when fully engaged. When we observe the diagonal lines in the man's shirt and the woman's skin we are watching the alternating twist of two spirals which form the double helix.
