I'd love to try it, but ~$180 is too beaucoup for my whisky habit. There are some extremely satisfying 15 & 18 year options for me to enjoy for considerably less. Thanks for the review. Cheers!

Thanks for trying this one so I don't need to! I'm a little surprised though, this distillery is apparently doing most things right so I'd expect this 18YO to be a bit of a sockblower. A very informative review anyway.

So this is a classic case of going into something with your mind pre blown. You’ve been anticipating it for a while and hearing others say how good it is and Your honesty about not loving it, it’s your opinion man and we appreciate just hearing that. Sure spending the $200 sucks, but when you love a distillery and all their offerings so much, this was absolutely worth the risk. As far as prices of scotch go, what gets at me is when you see a store who’s had the same bottles on the shelf for literally years and then you come in one day and the price on that same bottle that hasn’t moved has jumped.

Bill I love this Bruichladdich! It's spectacular on my nose and palette! It is expensive but sadly this is the reality these days with many scotches in this category. I pay $200 incl tax for a Lagavulin 16 and to me yes it is worth the money. This single malt is delicious for me but we al have very different palettes and I completely value and respect everyone's opinions! 100%! It's all grist for the mill! Cheers!
@WhiskyLoversSociety4 ай бұрын
Wow. That’s expensive there. Lagavulin 16 is €75 in Belgium now. I feel the pain
@christinecamley4 ай бұрын
@@WhiskyLoversSociety Yup it's $165 here and with taxes it comes to $199. Life is too short to drink cheap or lousy whisky! Lagavulin 16 is my favourite classy, refined, delicious scotch and it's a sentimental favourite! I am happy to pay for this expression. It's what it costs and when I am in the U.S. I manage to bring a couple back at a much cheaper price! We all have our loves! I have many fabulous single malts at a higher ABV, not chill filtered, but it's a fave! Cheers!

Thanks for the video, I got a lot of caramel from this one. Don't regret it at all but not sure I'd buy it again, especially since I'm at the beginning of my whiskey journey (this is my first 18).

Someone here mentioned the idea of getting into something with your mind pre blown, and I completely agree with that. In fact , I would argue that for those of us who love Bruichladdich and everything that they do , it’s impossible not to have very high, possibly unrealistic expectations for a first time 18 year old Bruichladdich whisky. My bottle is still sitting on the shelf unopened, and, who knows , maybe after watching some reviews like this one, I’ll finally get to it with the right mindset. As for the price of this bottle, yes, it is a little too high, but it’s pretty much what I expected when I first heard about it because you’re getting an 18 year old, non chill filtered, natural color, at 50%ABV, and with the Bruichladdich reputation behind it.

Bill, great detailed discussion and review. My collection of 18 year are limited because of price but so far the only one that has knocked me out is the Bunnahabhain. Still need to open my Deanston. The Ledaig 18 is very good but not fantastic. As much as I love Springbank, can't justify current price. CHEERS!

Deanston 18 is very nice and can still be got for a reasonable price.

The price will only increase. Almost every other 18 year at 50% ABV is $250-$300
@phatzwave442426 күн бұрын
You guys are going on about the price, it's a reflection of your dollar that's falling in value not just limited supplies. Don't blame companies for being greedy, blame the FED. It's only going to get worse. Btw, I bought TWO bottles, personally I think the price is just right. I didn't get into Single Malts to save money; I would have stuck with Bourbon if I did.

I’m posting this before I watch your video but holy cow do I get the weirdest sharp cheddar/ Kraft mac and cheese note on this one. There’s definitely some nice tropical fruit and funky oak but it’s just kind of overwhelmed by that cheese note.

Barely better than the Classic. I’m shocked you didn’t use any farmy/hay notes to describe it. I’m literally in the trying to like it phase. The classic does take a couple months to open up in my opinion, so I’m still holding out hope.

I’m with you here. First 2 drams, while not bad, were disappointing for $180 US. My third pour was last night, and now it has a chance at least. Pretty good, especially the second half of the glass, but not a good value yet.

I would love to try it if I see it in a bar to something but for $180.00 here in NC I will pass. And recently came a cross a bottle of Dark Arts for $529.00 yeah right, another pass!

I think I internally hyped this up so much, it could live up to it. It's great, but $180 is a tough sell for me. Agreed no wow factor, and is it 3X as good as Classic Laddie? The jury's still out for me.

Yes please, Talisker Storm is one of the affordable peated hwiskays I can get mi hands on. Most ardbegs are at least double the price of the storm. I am still debating what should be my peated entrance into the peated world of peated hwiskays... Something like Talisker or the deep end - Ardbeg Wee Beastie :D As for Bruichladich 18 - I am not paying 200$ for a bottle of alcohol.

Regarding the price, it basically follows bourbons $10 per decade of aging. If you need to justify it, how many MGP/KY/TN sourced bourbon/rye brands come out with $100+ bottles of like 6-8-10yr old whiskey. I do want to buy this but I might try to find it during my Scotland visit in May just to avoid shipping lol. I may try before I buy regardless.

I actively avoid those $100 bourbons. They make me sad, and they're rarely good

@shaoguangda32044 ай бұрын
The 18 is very good, just not worth the price. You have to understand that much of it went to the redesign of the bottle (its a glass stopper) and new sleeve. There are some people who do not like it, but then again its just Bruichladdich character. It is not something that everyone will love.

In these days of people's making and selling fake expensive whisky, what would be the reason to fake an expensive whisky, say a Macallan 30 y.o., and charge a ridiculously low price for the fake?

If you're not worried about getting caught then you only need to sell a few to make some cash
