Guys awesome video. Regarding those black clips you were fighting, in case you haven't already sussed them out, the tiny little circular insert you can see in the middle of the "head" of the clip, you (gently) push that deeper into the clip, (so in towards the van body if that makes sense..don't go too hard though as the pin will fall out the back), once you've pushed the pin back, the trim tool you were using will work. You'll see the pin is completely removable so that you can reinstall. You probably already encountered this but..in case you haven't, now you know :) The pin is what splays the rear of the clip out and holds it in place.

When you refinish that bit of rust you found (at 3:43 et seq.), you really need to sand it all the way down to bare metal, much farther than you did. That rust will be back. Once down to bare metal, treat the metal with some Ospho or other phosphoric acid solution intended for the purpose. This will reduce any remaining iron oxide to iron phosphate. Then paint over that with some zinc primer, and only then put on your white top coat. Other than that, thanks much for showing how to remove these flashy but annoying panels. Mine fill with dirt and dust all the time, and I see now that simply flushing them with water will not solve the real problem. Mercedes really should have done better on this.

Again thanks for the tips and video! I collected a full bucket of water after unclothed the "pipe" I have a built-up of moisture in the lower part of the van no apparent liking what so ever it's coming from the bottom! Very helpful 👍👍👍👍

The issues were having with the rear panel is that you push the inner pin.. (can slightly see the outline) push that in and it releases from the rear

Hope you don't mind me offering some helpful advice regarding the rust spot. After clearing as much flaky paint as possible you should add some Kurust before adding the Hammerite. It turns rusty metal solid. It's well worth the extra step.

No we really appreciate it. We’ve got a couple of new rust spots that we need to treat so will definitely get some of that stuff. We hadn’t heard of it before and the hammerite alone hasn’t done as good a job as we thought it would. Thank you for the tip 🙏

Kurust is actually made by Hammerite so working in conjunction with the paint it will give much better protection. Did you remove the trim inside the back doors? That will have a ton of dirt under it.

Ah that makes sense then, we’re just waiting for some decent weather then we’re going to get some of that stuff and do some extra rust proofing. Yeah we removed that trim, you’re right there was tonnes of grime! It’s amazing the places the dirt gets into.

@@TheWholeWorldorNothing its a 2016, I have plenty of experience of rust being the proud owner of a Transit! It might be nice to Raptor paint the trim when its off. Very impressed by the methodical approach with your build, I am very much of the 'unscrew random things' way of thinking.

Similar year to our 2015 then so hopefully you won’t find anything too bad lurking under there! Not heard of raptor paint but assuming it’s some sort of protective paint - top idea, might have done that ourselves if we’d known about it. Haha yeah there were plenty of times during the build we took that approach 😀

Those bumper clips at the back are push pin clips. You push the little pins in the middle in first then you can pull the clip out. You probably figured this out now 🤘🏽

Great question. And we haven’t got a clue unfortunately! But it’s doubtful since it’s been a well known issue for many years and they’ve not bothered to remedy it!

No problem! Sorry we can’t be of more help, it’s not something we’ve ever researched actually because we only looked into our specific model. My mum’s from Grenada and my dads from England so other way round 😀 And we actually need to do some more work underneath the trim this summer because we’ve had a rust spot develop again - once a year is probably about right 👍🏾

Great video, but please consider or test and report your own experience. Butyl rubber makes a better seal than silicone. This is that same tenacious stuff you find holding plastic vapor barriers onto door panels. It never dries out, and is not time-sensitive as silicone glue.
