Every time I read in the Bible that Jesus walked away from the crowd, I was always confused on why He did such thing if His purpose on this earth was to attend to the crowd and teach them the love of God. I then began to think that God ran from the crowd so that He could find moments in isolation with only God and Himself. Ive never interpreted it in the way you preached it. Thank you, Alex!!! You have a gift of understanding and preaching Gods word with such a deep connection and meaning to the way God works.

I would add, although He was/is the only way to the Father, He still walked the earth to exalt doing and living the will of God. He also knew He would not walk the earth in the physical forever and the idea of that even caused Peter to open the door to satan. “Satan get the behind me!” His holy sacrifice on the cross is the only reason we have a way to be reconciled back to the Father by the shedding of His blood. He was the living word in the flesh. How can He teach and lead us to be reconciled to the Father if He knew the eternal word is that we must walk by faith and not by sight. The righteous are made righteous by faith in the holy will of God, in Christ Jesus, who no longer walks the earth Himself in the flesh. The glory of God is still reflected through His true sons and daughters, aside from His signs, wonders & miracles in the earth…1 Peter 1:7-25

That’s one reason. There are several reasons for it. Other times, He would leave because the crowd was about to try to arrest Him. Other times still, He would leave because if He stayed, they would try to make Him king and that would’ve prevented prophecy from playing out.

Not only did Jesus run from popularity, he ran from abundance of money too. I love the story of when the rich man asked Jesus what he had to do to enter the kingdom of heaven. He stated that he had kept all of the commandments since he was a child, but Jesus told him one thing that he hadn’t done: “Sell all of your possessions and give the money to the poor, then follow me.” Jesus could’ve easily made him a disciple and used his money to help support his ministry. Instead, Jesus told him to do the opposite!

He didn’t necessarily run away from it, he had a right relationship to money. After all, he had women supporting him financially. As his followers we also need to have a right relationship with money. Giving it all away isn’t always the right path.

Hey Alex, I wanted to give you a quick word of encouragement. I am a trying to be a professional musician. I currently live in Nashville and the Lord has been faithful and I am starting to see success. But I have always struggled with trying to be the best guy in the room and trying to make people think I am the best guy in the room. But recently I have trying to deny myself and glorify God in all things and you have been helping me through that. I realized that all of my successes were gifts from God and I don't deserve them so I have nothing to brag about. Thanks for the guidance bro!

This really showed me how far I've matured in my walk. I used to be an internal " look at me, look at me" person. "Pay attention to me", person. Now I want no parts of that. I've been blessed with the peace of Christ and now I'm so content. Pastor Alex I pray on Jesus' name that you triumph over this issue. Also just pull the band-aid of Instagram off. Jesus will make sure you will get the views you need. Peace Brother! Love you

"So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin." James 4:17. That doesn't mean sitting on your hands and allowing depravity to take over this or any other country. It means loving your neighbor by trying to keep them safe from their own destruction. Being educated and ready for any good work. Not being lazy and making it your duty to know what the spirit of God say's by his sword, which is His word. That means telling people the truth and helping them understand why God's way is the way of peace. Understanding how to apply the word to every situation. The question has been answered. It is in His word!

Thank you brother! Ever since I watched the simple and quiet life video, it has really changed the way I look at social media. We see it all the time, “influencers” or musicians start off giving honor to God, but something changes over time that damages their relationship with him. Pride, money and lust are scary things, and God doesn’t want us to put ourselves in situations where they can overtake us.

A thought that came to me is that the devil was thrown out of heaven because he wanted to be praised. I think being a Christian and varsity athlete this is something we wrestle with subconsciously without even realizing until we’ve quit the team or gotten injured for a long period of time. Especially when you’re turning away from what’s deemed “popular”, and trying to show God’s beauty through that it can be hard to stay consistent and find joy in doing so. But this video really reassured me that if Jesus can do it, then whos to say we can’t? Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”!!!

Personally, I struggle with doing things out of people pleasing in a way and doubting myself when there's so many people around me saying so many different things. as a guy who is now 60 yrs old, I was born a introvert. always spent a alot of time by myself. and still do. I do not own a smart phone ( flip phone) I am not on facebook, or instagram, just Twitter. I love playing disc golf. I would love to compete in tournaments and fantasize about winning a world championship. Lol's but if I did, I would enjoy those 15 mins of fame and then would want to just go to my car and drive away from the crowd and find somewhere to go and be alone again. I have always been afarid of people wanting to throw me a "surprise" birthday party. I want no part of that. being recognized for your accomplishments is one thing, but seeking all that constant attention is scary. Imagine being endowed with the power that Jesus gave his disciples to heal and cast out demons, ?? you could walk into a local hospital and heal a whole bunch of people, and then head straight for the stairwell exit and disappear so you don't have crowds following you around town. Look at all the celebrities that are so popular...? it's crazy!!

Thanks for being so open Alex! A couple of things thagt might be helpful to mention: 1. This seems like something that many pastors of local churches struggle with too, particularly with regards to the numbers in their congregation being a marker for christian vs secular 'success'. There might be some wisdom to gain from pastors who have gone through similar situations. 2. An older christian friend once said to me that it's wierd how sometimes we want a heavier cross to bear. He said what if God just wants me to live a normal life, being a teacher for the rest of my working life. He said that at times he almost wanted to suffer more for the gospel. I found this eye opening and see a similar situation with your struggle with popularity... what if God does want you to have a large audience on social media/ podcasts etc. These things aren't clear cut of course and you are clearly going about this the right way. Keep reading and praying, but also count on the wisdom of those who have gone before you and that you trust.

Alex, I love your heart and I have no doubts by how you speak, your motivation is true. I think you missed the mark on this on though. Yes, absolutely be aware that wealth and popularity can bring some real negative consequences if we are not able to stay humble and check our pride. To tell people to stop sharing videos where you are trying to get the good word of God out I think is a miss understanding of what the bible says about popularity. The desire to be popular is more than merely wanting others to think well of our character-we should desire to have a good testimony in the world (Philippians 2:15). A focus on popularity is an obsession with self. The craving for popularity is part of the “pride of life” mentioned in 1 John 2:16. It feels good to the ego to consider ourselves popular, and we tend to bask in that feeling rather than deal honestly with ourselves about our own weaknesses. This leads to pride. Pride inflates our view of our own importance and blinds us to our sins and failings (Proverbs 16:18; Romans 12:3). Even when the choice to please others does not involve open disobedience to God, pride is always at the heart of the desire for popularity. And God hates pride (Proverbs 8:13; James 4:6; 1 Peter 5:5). Ultimately it would be fantastic if God's word became popular but not at the expense at changing it to make it popular. It would be fantastic for Truth to be popular but we can not bend the truth to make it so. I can't believe that it's a bad thing some of the big churches that are truly preaching the bible and truth. Or someone like Tim Tebow that is doing so much with his popularity for God's kingdom. I don't think you should strive to be unpopular but just strive to be truthful and let God's blessings take you where they do while checking yourself that you are not thinking it's your glory and effort.
