Best gift I ever bought was actually my mom “helping me” buy a meat grinder for my dad when I was about 8. It was in a thrift store (we were not wealthy) and I wanted it for him because he said he loved ham salad sandwiches and I thought we could make them. So we took the meat grinder home and my mom helped me clean it up really nice, and “I” gave it to my dad, and we made so much ham salad that I then ate for school lunches for so long that I can’t even think about it anymore without feeling sick. as someone who previously worked as a delivery driver at amazon last year around christmas they really do expect the impossible. we had to do up to 200 stops per day which at a 10 hour shift leaves us 3 minutes per stop which means we get 3 minutes to go from when we parked at your house to when we park at the next house. i tried so hard to keep up that i slid around a corner on ice and crashed head on into a tree. i was asked to sign a paper that stated i was at fault. and for 4 months i got no hours. when i came back in better weather i was fired because i wasn’t fast enough. i wasn’t fired by jeff bezos, i was fired by two working class people trying desperately to make a profit off the business they contracted out to amazon. so any legal recourse i pursued would come out of the pockets of people who couldn’t afford it.

As a former Amazon employee I couldn’t agree more. The warehouse had no running water or working bathrooms for over a month during the peek of the pandemic. You got 2 mins to use the restroom that was on the other side of the warehouse, that 2 mins started from the moment they tracked your location as moving off of your designated zone. The list goes on and on of the horrendous work environment they create for their employees and they do not care that their turnover rate is through the roof.

I had an Amazon job in Scotland in the warehouse part with the trolleys and getting peoples items. It's the only job that's ever made me physically sick. I lived two hours away from the site and had to catch transport to get there so FORGET any sort of free time - wake up 5 am, to get there by 8am. Leave 6pm, get home 9pm. It was a miracle I got to eat dinner and bathe. I had to weigh if eating was worth it that night if I wanted better sleep. The lunches were no where near long enough for that amount of people at the actual warehouse, either. You're rushing even on your break. You get five minutes if you're lucky of sitting before you're expected to be on the go again. It's truly a horrible experience. I got told so many times to pick up the pace despite struggling bc I had to CONTINUALLY go find ladders (I'm 4'11, and my luck had me getting all the items on the high shelves, but ofc all the ladders were always so many isles away from me when I needed them) But also apparently being careful with the trolley was being too slow. They do not care if you injure people or work yourself sick so long as you reach quota.

It's like the 32hr work week. Pay people the same salary for a 40hr work week and you get higher efficiency and making more. But people outside of the places that do it, they won't listen. @@aellalee4767 Right. And this is true across the job spectrum too -- not just blue collar + high-degree positions. 32-hr work week over 5-day or 32 4-day + proper compensation like actual guaranteed pensions that are tied with COLA. Your employees WILLINGLY work harder because they know you have their backs. You get much MUCH higher worker satisfaction, worker retention, worker output.....the benefits are endless. There are very very few drawbacks and even those drawbacks are short term. Even fiefs and lords knew they had to give their workers half the year off so they could ALSO maintain a household, have a family, have breaks, etc etc etc. You can't keep working ALL of your people ALL of the time because there's a whole helluva lot more of them than there are of the ruling class. You can't maintain quality worker supply without self-replication (procreation). That's arguably true even today.)

Been focused on community lately and one quote sticks out-“you have to go to community community doesn’t just come to you.” Even little things like going to the grocery store and interacting with other shoppers and the employees there build a little bit of community. Convenience has taken away so much of that.

I used to work for amazon and something that really hit me one day is how dystopian it is that one person can order car litter and jt starts a chakn reaction of human suffering across multiple wear houses of moving the damn things to get them their heavy ass product to their door at an ungodly speed
@jadadallas5891Ай бұрын
I order my cat litter through PetSmart. I feel bad for all the people who have to handle it because I work in a warehouse where I handle similar products. And my job leaves me too physically exhausted to go buy it at the store. 😢
@AmazingMrMe123Ай бұрын
@jadadallas5891 I don't judge anyone for ordering heavy products online, it's available and convenient. I'm just saying the lengths Amazon goes to so they can guarantee same day or next day is probably not humane. I blame the company not people who decide to use a service engineered to be as easy as possible for the customer.

Josh, when my big brother came home from Vietnam, he came to my college and I fixed him up with my suitemate. They became an instant item and a few weeks later, he drove from NW Pennsylvania to New Jersey to see her and meet her parents. He took her a gift, and when she opened it, all three of them turned to look at him. His gift was an inner tube for a car tire. He explained, “I know you must get showered with flowers and candy. I wanted something to make you remember me.” They got married in less than a year.

Amongst a lot of other reasons, the problem comes from the need to “please investors” and constantly be making exponential growth which is literally impossible to do forever. A lot of times when stock people say “this business is dropping” they don’t actually mean that it’s losing money, simply that it is gaining money at a slower rate than before. You can’t keep that up without human rights violations, and eventually they won’t even be able to keep it up with them. Companies that treat their human employees like humans still make money, but not in the way that stock investing ghouls want them to. It’s sick.
