Her book, 'Citizenship and Its Discontents: An Indian History', was heralded as having broken new ground in scholarship.
Neerja Chowdhury, a journalist with several decades of experience and who now works as a consulting editor with Indian Express has written one of last year's most talked about books, 'How Prime Ministers Decide.'
Malavika Rajkotia, who wrote 'Intimacy Undone: Marriage, Divorce and Family Law in India', is one of the best known family and divorce lawyers in India.
All three speak of background, privilege and the culture of social capital that makes it possible for women to rise and what women who do not have these suffer.

Women should be grateful to Dr. BR Ambedkar, who ensured equal rights to them in our Constitution. In the past, Manuwadis and Brahmins had denied any any rights such as education and to own property. Today many women are occupying high position like President, Chief Ministers, Governors, Judges, Ministers, Secretaries, Scientists and Ambassadors. They are actively involved in Media.

However don’t pretend like religion isn’t a highly patriarchal structure be it yours or others. also women don’t get equality in any major religion of the world. It’s only in godless secularist liberal democracies of the west where they have received some kind of equality.

Am Indian migrant living in the UK. Yes your comment is spot on. Arranged marriages = forced marriages = Western passport/status. Indian parents ostracise their daughters if they marry White males, do not go to their Weddings as my sons' friends in their 30s have married an Indian from Bradford and other from Scotland. One friend left the UK for Australia with her White husband due to pressure/Control

Look at Tamil Nadu our CM Mr. Stalin and dravidian ideology has helped women of all strata to develop and grow. Thanks to Periyar's teachings. Our ex CM Dr. Karunanidhi did a lot for women empowerment, school kids giving laptops, free bus, now our CM has naan mudhalvan policies to train students and prepare them to be auditor, chartered accountant, engineer, lawyer etc. Salute to Dravidian ideology of periyar, karunanidhi, stalin, ambedkar

One of the major constraint with women/mother working is the travel time. If they can be back from workplace to home in 10 to 20 minutes, more women will get an opportunity to work. Better roads and safe footpaths, cheaper and easily accessible public transport would give women/mothers confidence to go out and work. 5pm to 9 pm is a time in my experience children would need their mothers the most. Children are hungry in the evening, need multiple feeds, they need time to share their stories to the mother which will help them develop their emotional and moral side, time to take kids to dance, music, sports classes etc, if they come back from school with a fever, mother's care is very much required. So ease of transport plays a major role in empowering women and bringing up a healthy future generation

The male club sadly is there everywhere - in India and abroad. It is clearly visible in how the percentage of woman in leadership positions reduce as you go higher. However, that is the case for race as well. When I worked for a multinational company, I found my colleagues in the US and UK (across gender and race) getting promoted far more than those located in India. Bias is there everywhere. We just have to keep trying - it helps best if you do what you love

Among the political parties there is 'Naam Tamilar' in TN which nominates 50 percent women candidates in elections. It is yet to win a seat, but atleast they are making some effort. Against this major political parties miserably fail.

In low income families in villages, house maids etc , what I have seen is that it is the women who spend for their children as husbands are drunk and harasses her. Inspite of that she works hard to have food on the table and education for their children

Actually Development of the people is the development of the country. Government should provide free schools, hospitals and basic needs to rural areas . But government is sevent of the corporates. Thats why government fails to curb on inflation and corruption. For this reason poor people including women can't leader up in their life. But government is just working for Adani Ambani and other businessmen, and also helping loan defaulter businessmen like Vijay malya, Nirav Modi, Mehul choksi and many othersto flee to out of the country. Now tell how can government help the poor and curb on crime, poverty, system ?
