Mr. Thapar. Thanks for the video. Some valid points were made and I learnt much from it. My only criticism is that many difficult questions were avoided. To name a few would be about his son’s wealth and his own lack of initiatives in bringing transparency to party political funding. It hurts to see such a comfortable interview from the Wire. How is GST a reform, Chidambaram ji, if it is responsible for job losses or lesser job growth? 90% of the jobs since 1991 were in the informal sector, which has been destroyed by GST and demonetisation. Why are BJP+Congress never speak about the deplorable role of GST when it comes to job growth? What provisions have been made to encourage job growth in the coming years? Why did Malaysia remove GST? Almost all modern economists do not seem to have any sense of right and wrong.

reform doesn't necessarily mean its positive or negative. it could be a failed reform or a successful reform. GST was initially a brainchild of UPA government which wanted to put the maximum rate at 18%. But BJP has now put 28% on certain goods which is completely unacceptable. However, GST itself will bring long term benefit if they can correct the brackets and rate.
