What I love about their music is that it sounds so quintessentially Nordic, but if you listen to ancient music from basically any culture on the planet you will find a similar feeling. It's that connectedness to the ancient, primal music of human culture that really captivates me.

As a nordic person this kinda music speaks to my soul. It has that ancestral history we who belong to this "western culture" are so thirsty for. Let's not forget our roots. Let's preserve them and lets express them in a modern way. ❤

As a half West African (via the Caribbean) person this kind of music speaks to my soul as well. It speaks to any human being with ears to listen and a heart to feel, I think. A shared human experience that transcends the boundaries of peoples and cultures. This music would probably have been just as alien to the actual Viking-era Norse people as to someone like me, but you'd better believe it'd resonate with them as much as with us if they had the chance to hear it.

In the Nordic countries we've been so protective of other religions and culture, but our own culture is neglected. We learn what in school about our ancestry and history? Tor and the Midgard serpent, we are told the Hàvamàl exists but nothing more, and then we spend 500 hours learning about hinduism, christianity and islam.,. Sad. - We need to return to our roots.

I'm trying to learn how to sing this song so I can dedicate it to the people in Maui. Idk if you knew this, but Wardruna wrote this at the beginning of the Covid pandemic. This song is essentially a healing ritual for us all. That's what I hope to channel.

I think you feel like I did when I first came across Wardruna and Heilung. The best way to explain how I feel is I felt like my ancestors were calling out to me. I think that is part of what's happening with their work. It's more than music. It's like something inside is waking up. On another note, I love how he sings with such passion. It comes from his soul, and in every video that he has made, there is his soul pouring out. He doesn't just sing. He puts his soul out there. My first song of his was Grá. Not expecting a video reaction, but a good listen. He sings about wolf's and repairing the broken circle of coexisting with them in the wild. I cried.

Ahhh, you found the wellspring, Wardruna, another awesome band. And as odd as it seems, the metal community and the pagan folk community intersect rather neatly. You'd think they'd have nothing in common but nothing is further from the truth; they seem to be mutually supportive. There's lot to explore and it's fun to see somebody finding new stuff. I know you get a lot of suggestions but if you get around to it, try "In the Arms of Mara" by Grai (Russia) and "Sacrifice" by Trobar de Morte (Spain.) Both worth your time.

‘Healing hill’ is not in Norway, or any other far off place. It’s within arm’s reach, and attained with conviction and intent. Let this music empower you to reach out. Be healed. Don’t let others kid you into believing you are weak and dependent upon them. You are more powerful than you know. If this music touched your soul it’s because you were led here to listen. You are being called. Now, remember all that you were before you were born. And listen again.

In the spirit of helping you in your journey of finding great music, I've just come across Malte Marten here on YT who plays a handpan, which is an instrument I knew nothing of until today. There is something about the human voice in this mode, whether it's shamans from the Nord, or from the plains, or mideast, fareast, outback, ancient monks.. my ears are drawn to it. I remember deeply when a group of native Americans came to our elementary school & sang and danced for us, I never forgot. I remember being fascinated in the early days of the internet, when you could "tune in" to remote radio stations from the world, and I would listen to music from India, or Persia and I loved it. it didn't matter if I didn't know the words, it was the chants and cadence that drew me. It is the same here. TY Cosmic for bringing songs here that I'd probably never hear otherwise.

@4:54 High upon Healing-Peak, nine maidens await. There's a significance in that number of maidens. This music is pure pagan folk from the days of the Vikings (as a matter of fact, Wardruna plays the theme song for the tv show Vikings) The number 9 in Viking culture and society was considered a magical number. Oðinn the All Father, hung himself from Yggdrasil (The World Tree) for 9 days with a spear through his side, in order to gain wisdom and to gain insight in magical runes. Also, the World Tree, Yggdrasil, consists of 9 seperate realms: 1. Asgard (the realm of the Aesir Gods where Oðinn resides), 2.Midgard (our world, the world of Men) 3. Vanaheim (the realm of the Vanir, where Freyja and her brother Frey are from, albeit they reside in Asgard), 4. Jotunheim (the realm of the Giants, where Loki is originally from until he was taken in by Oðinn and became his blood brother), 5. Alfheim (The realm of the Elves), 6.Nidavellir (realm of the Dark Elves), 7. Niflheim (Realm of Ice and the Ice Giants) 8. Muspelheim (Realm of Fire and Fire Giants) and 9. Helheim (Realm of the Dead, ruled by Hel, daughter of Loki). So that's why on top of Lyfjaberg there are 9 maidens awaiting you to give comfort, healing and solace. Just some perspective info :)

I read somewhere that Einar Selvik, the singer and songwriter for Wardruna, used to be a metal singer, before he switched to writing Nordic folk music. I love this music. My grandmother was Norwegian and I never fully appreciated our Nordic heritage until I was older. Einar did the music for the Assassin’s Creed video game, Valhalla. I used to just ride the horse around the world and listen to the music. Like for so many others, this and Heilung’s music reaches deep into the soul. I’m glad I discovered your channel ☺️

If you get into Norse Paganism, Lyfjaberg is home to at least one Valkyrie (maybe another godess as there isn't much about her out there). Her name is Eir. She may have served as a hand madden to Freya, Odin's Wife. Unlike the other Valkyries that escort the dead off the battlefiend into the hall's of the Gods (like Valhalla being Odin's Hall) Eir finds the wounded on the battlefield to be healed at least in theory. So the idea of this home being her home and shedding your burdens to heal is quite beautiful.

Mate, you'll love everything Wardruna has put out. 'Kvitravn', 'Helvegen', 'Grå' especially. And any version of 'Völuspá' really, but I'd recommend the one with Einar and the Bergen Symphony Orchestra & choir. Incredibly powerful stuff.

This may seem strange, but it's like it should be performed in a cathedral, both for the 'feel' of the song, and because I think the acoustics would be amazing.

Aw crap. I think I just got a yen to add a taglharpa to my string instrument collection. I still haven't learned to play the majority of what I already own (gotta be honest, I'll probably never truly learn shamisen; the strings drove me nuts with going out of tune as fast as they do).

10:14 congratulations, you experienced the magic timelapse, which foremost Wardruna can provide you with. 11:10 i am myself at the brink of a monumental change in my life. I have been a victim to alcoholism for around 15 years ... and i feel like *"I HAD ENOUGH OF YOU ! "* ... but maybe you don't know the _STRUGGLE_ behind such a fight ... if you do - well then you know... This song is part of my change...

Oh My you are now as lost as I am. Symphonic metal wasn't enough and you have barely scratched the surface of the number of great bands there. The European metal experience wasn't enough. Sabaton et al. The Japanese girl metal bands weren't enough, Band Maid, Love Bites, Neophila and on .Now you are in the pit of European neo-pagan stuff. There is no going back now, you are lost. Anything with Maria Franz in tit is worth listening to. Other bands like Skald and Danheim will take you farther even Omnia is worth exploring. You will never see the end of this and that is not a bad thing. Einar Selvik is a genius, there is a song that Wardruna does with Aurora that will knock you out. Also don't miss Elvor Palsdotter

Music in human community before modern times was used to express communal connection to spiritual life . This is not performance for entertainment . All sang participated to enact human expression that connects us to the spiritual hence the sense you participate in this music rather than spectate and its not for entertainment but a necessary human activity to be grounded and connected to the larger mystical life that transcends the realm of ordinary human experience.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGrZoIewhbSbatE toss this on your list, the video's a tad hokey in spots, it's OOOOOOLD, but you'll probably get a kick out of the song. ok, granted, it's not gonna excite you like 'the black satans', but it's worth a gander, a band called battlelore. so, perhaps, you might want someone to slave through all your links to decide what's at least safe for you, it'd be a good plan, for when you set up the suggestion thread on the community tab, my suggestion for the best bass solo you will EVER hear, might be a bit too much for you to take.
