Well, that hit like a hammer. What a great version of this song. I went in thinking that no one could beat "The Animals" version, but this one is every bit as good as their version was. I wouldn't call this so much a cover as it is a variation on an old folk song that has been around for decades. Erik has a phenominal talent. He is capable of conveying so much emotion when he sings. I love this, especially as a Swede. I really think he hit it on the nail with the dark theme here. It captures the darkness and pain in the song. The buildup, vocals and especially the piano just brought this home. A great homage to an amazing song.

Erik's without a doubt one of Sweden's most talented musicians. He and Tommy Johansson, who I know you've seen before, have done a cover of the Sabaton song Carolus Rex together, which I can highly recommend looking up if you haven't already. Anyway, stay awesome!

Thanks man for your view on the song. I feel like there arent many artist that you instantly feel there presens and relation to the lyrichs and melody in the song. I am totally with you on cover versions. There's a magical formula to get it right - and most people don't. This, however, has to be one of the best covers ever! You should listen to Erik Grönwall sing Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You, it's the best cover I heard since Whitney Huston did her cover in the movie Bodyguard. You should even look/listen to him sing Mariah Carey's Without You, John Farnham's You're the voice, Eric Carmen's (Celine Dion) All by myself, Oh Holy Night and (The Animals House of the rising sun), they are also truly amazing! In 2009, Erik won Swedish Idol and performed the specially written song Higher in the final. On March 23, 2022, it was announced by Eddie Trunk that Grönwall is replacing ZP Theart as the lead singer of Skid Row. In March 2024, Erik announced that he was leaving Skid Row for health reasons after being diagnosed with leukemia. His first single, "Higher", reached gold on digital downloads after only three days. His debut album, self-titled Erik Grönwall, was released just ten days after the finals and debuted at number one on the Swedish albums chart and was certified platinum. Both as a solo artist and band member, Grönwall has numerous top 40 hits.

There is a tradition in Sweden when you make a cover. Try to steal it. Lay claim of ownership. Why make a copy of the original, that has already been done! There is a reason you do the song, it hits you in a way that is personal. Make it a song of your own experience, make it your own.
