It's his love song (and ironically he didn't write this one) to his beautiful wife there on stage with him... It's very moving when you take it into context. He was a drunk, and through her and his and her love for each other his life changed for the better. That's what this song (his version) is about. Redemption and love. It's beautiful...

The point is that he is NOT a generational kind of talent, he´s the only talent of this kind that YOU have heard about (me, for example: I have been a fan of Russell Allen since the early 2000s, and of Jorn Lande since 2011, but Ive only heard the name Christ Stapleton for the first time like a year ago). To be clear: Im not trying to downplay Stapleton´s talent as a singer/composer, Im trying to point out that he is DEFINITELY NOT the only one.

There is two brands of Tennessee Whiskey produced in Middle Tennessee. Jack Daniels and George Dickel. There is no brand called Tennessee Whiskey. Just a few pointers.

His version is a cover. David Allan Cole was the original followed by George Jones shortly after. Chris put his stamp on this song. He was in a Blue grass band called The Steeldrivers before he went solo and while he was writing hit songs for everyone else. Check out his video of Fire Away. It is the only music video that he has made that isn't a concert.

Chris didn't write this song. Forget the writer...first recorded in 1981(?) by David Allen Coe; multiple other versions recorded since then. But due to his "styling" and unique vocals, the song has become synonymous with Stapleton.

He used the song I’d Rather Go Blind by blues legend Etta James as the inspiration for this arrangement and five years ago you couldn’t get away from it on country radio, not that you’d want to.
