In all my teaching years especially male students would hold the door. I always smiled and said thank you, I appreciate it. Same out and about… There are a few people who get on their high horse. To me it is just a sign of a good, decent upbringing. Thank you to ALL who still care about others!❤️

As a father of two boys (8 and 6), people that weren't raised southern, don't know the struggle. My boys will hold every door open and say yes sir/ma'am to anyone the talk to but it ain't easy....it takes thousands of "what", "you mean sir", "sir" to get them where it's natural....same way with being polite to everyone...been teaching them that it doesn't cost a penny to be nice to someone, but it may be worth a dollar to who you were nice to

Moving to Arizona from Oklahoma and Texas many years ago, I was hit with a culture shock. I could not understand why everyone was so unkind. Here, when someone holds a door for you, you automatically know they are most likely from out of state. We had been in Arizona for quite a number of years when we had to make a trip back home. I didn't realize how accustomed I had become to the hatefulness and rudeness of the people here. Also, just a bit bitter. We drove through New Mexico and experienced pretty much the same attitude there as we do in Arizona. (Actually worse. I try never to stop in New Mexico on my way through anymore.) But somewhere in West Texas, we pulled over at a convenience store. I made it to the door as a gentleman was just coming out. He immediately held the door for me, and did something I had not seen in years. He tipped his hat! I couldn't remember the last time I had seen that. He then asked how we were doing with a smile on his face. It actually took me back for a second. Inside the store, every customer was kind and helpful. And so was the clerk behind the counter. Me and my family sat in the car a bit stunned. One of my daughter's said, "that was really weird." She was young when we left Texas, so I had to tell her that it really was rather normal for Texas. Oklahoma was little different. It was a wonderful feeling, like a weight lifted. But the moment we returned to Arizona, that oppressive feeling also returned. But since that trip, I have made it a point to be as kind and respectful to people here as is possible. I can't believe that I ever allowed hateful people to counteract my upbringing. It won't happen again. Don't worry about those hateful people and don't let them stop you from being the best person you can be, just because they can't do that. Keep it up and you will discover there are indeed, others like you around.

Tim's awesome & has a ton of great music. He has a really cool one that he did early in his career, called 'Don't take the girl' that has a cool story to it. Out of Tim's 20+ year career, he says this is his favorite song he has performed. I would have to agree that it is my favorite of Tim's, as well. I think the fact that it appears he and his wife, Faith, actually live this way makes it even more powerful. They were country's "it" couple for years and they could have so easily turned into complete jack-asses, but they never show up in the gossip as anything other than good, solid, down-to-earth, humble and kind people. (Although there was that time in 2000 that Kenny Chesney and Tim got arrested at their own concert because Kenny rode away on a sheriff's horse and Tim got into a scuffle with an officer in the incident. He's grown up a lot since then, lol.) Great reaction to one of my favs! ❤️

You said..."a lot of these things have been lost ..." its true. These are all lessons learned in what my mom always called "home schooling". Schools are there to teach reading, math, science, etc...but home schooling is even more important. It is a FAMILY's job to handle the home schooling. To teach manners, patience, values, respect, etc. So many dont do that anymore, and now we have generations with no manners, morals, or respect for themselves or anyone else.

I had friends in high school knew I had a learning disability instead of making fun of me. They set me down and asked me what my dreams were to be I said a pilot and then said we are gonna you get there and they did . I am one of the few who had friends not make fun of me. and yes I am a piIot I got all my ratings up to commercial, band I also fly for the Air Force.

It is just plain courtesy here in Texas to hold the door for someone coming in or out , especially if it is a lady or the elderly or handicapped. If you don't then you might get a certain look from someone. It is just what we do here. Never disrespect your elders. This is part of that old charm of the south. I see someone struggling I ask if I can help although I am somewhat disabled. I can still do what I can. Actually when I first moved here I was taken back by folks waving when they drove by whether they knew you or not. It is still that way mostly in the country, maybe not so much in the city.
