Bicycle Day series 2023 (Bonus Request) If you recall from the intro at the beginning of the series, the Swiss chemist who invented and on this day took the first intentional LSD trip was named Albert Hofmann, hence the title of the intro track here (which is a conversation between a doctor and the narrator of the main song). Both the intro and the main song are from Tool’s 4th studio album, 2006’s “10,000 Days.” Without setting the bar too high, IMHO this is the greatest progressive metal (and possibly all metal) song ever recorded. Drummer Danny Carey is a BEAST, and it uses 4/4, 5/8, 5/4, 9/8, 11/8, 3/4, and 6/4 time signatures in one track. Technically the song is more about a DMT trip (and aliens) and not LSD, but the holiday is about psychedelia in general so we’re still good.

Growing up with these guys in my ear, they came through wonderfully with this album after a long wait. 10,000 days was a joke for fans waiting for the next album, but it references Maynard's mother's long struggle till death. He references her in his side project, A Perfect Circle with the song "Judith". Really thoughtful music. Rare

As important as the lyrics always are, there's maybe no more important song to hear the lyrics than this one. It's a guy coming off a high, and coming to grips with his experience. That's why the lyrics start frantic and wild and become slowly more lucid as the song goes on. You can feel the self-loathing and fear of being a failure and being misunderstood. So good.
