Peter begins laying the second layer of pine planks on the floor to stop drafts. He uses a hand plane to take down the high spots on the sub floor. He continues to lay stones, as he builds the chimney for his rumford fireplace.
He then gives a tour of his 21'st century home, contrasting some of the conveniences with the lifestyle of the pioneers in the 1700's. He discusses the importance of planting trees, before looking at the first log cabin he built on the property, the original historic retreat. That cabin has been modified, adding conveniences such as outdoor shower and wood stove.
As he discusses the history of the indigenous peoples on the continent, he works on a sewing new haversack from brain tanned deer hide.
