Peter finishes blacksmithing new hinges for the door on his log cabin. He hangs the door with some difficulty. He fastens the hinges using forged rose bud nails.
He retrieves his deer hides that have been rinsing in the stream, to continue the tanning process. He discusses the bucking solution and demonstrates removing the membrane from the hides. The rooster continually interrupts his narrative. Once the membrane is removed, the hide is put in an acidic bath and then dried in the sun, in preparation for being put in the tanning solution.
