Some guy in an office crunching numbers all day just to pay for student loans and a mortgage wants to have some weekend fun. Probably doesn't know how to build a car in his garage or have the time, but loves racing enough to go out and spend the money. That's that make him not understand your so called pride? You're saying he can't pat himself on the back for working hard to afford such a car? If that's the case with everything, build your own TV, stove, microwave, watch etc., because there's no pride in just buying them. Make your own paper towels and socks. I think what is missing here is most of the time the built car costs more. Ever specced good stuff? $15k for a good fuel injection system. $30k for a blower setup. $5k here, $10k there. And all the labor that goes into it. If you're not doing it, you're paying thousands on thousands for someone to do it for you. Versus the weekend warrior who wrote a check and is having just as much fun, with a warranty, and for less money
@admdubya21076 ай бұрын
MSRP on a Hellcat starts at like $75K and I’m pretty you can’t touch one for less than $100K. A basic Mustang GT isn’t really even going to beat anything and it’ll cost you $50K new. My friend’s sub-11 second Civic Hatchback cost him blood and sweat and about $10K all in. With a Hellcat budget he could probably reach lower orbit. You might want to check what your warranty says about drag racing.

@@t_c5266 see there we are probably talking about different eras. For starters I’m not talking about Coyote Mustangs. Those didn’t exist when I was around him. Secondly, a 1999 Civic hatchback weighs about 1,600lbs less than the same year Mustang…which is the Mustangs we were shitting on. You’d have to strap your sand rail to a Civic to make a Mustang’s weight class. The biggest mod he made to the engine was swapping it out entirely for a larger vehicle’s engine and installing a cheap turbo kit. I wouldn’t even argue it was a good build or that it still runs. It almost certainly doesn’t. But when it was good it was great. Scary fast FWD ain’t for me though. Shit ain’t right.

Is that an 87 Buick Grand National in the first race? I feel bad for the Camaro that spent all that money on mods to lose to a stock GNX 🤣🤣🤣 [Yes, I'm old.] (honorable mention, do any of these new card drivers know what line lock is???? )

Stock GNX could pull the 1/4 in about 13.5 seconds. Doesn't take very much at all to make them blow into the low 12's like that one though. Those 3.8 engines were absolute monsters.

Both have been bought and built Unless you're saying the car was stolen and is unassembled. More accurate tittle is Factory specs vs Custom specs.

"Built vs bought" is such a low class phrase. We all put time in to go fast. How you get it done doesn't matter. I've built and bought and it's the same sweat.

Built Vs. Bought is quite literally just Stock vs. Unrestricted. It’s not really that hard of a modification to make a Mustang Dark Horse beat any of these cars.
@Michael-uc2pn7 ай бұрын
I feel like most of the "bought" cars also double as daily drivers. The built cars are mostly dedicated drag racing cars, which I assume are extremely unreliable compared to the original stock configuration. You can make a car a LOT faster if all it's really expected to do is make a 1/4 mile between maintenance intervals and anything unnecessary for that task can be stripped out. Really shouldn't even be in the same class for the most part.
@jimmyboy1317 ай бұрын
But that's not exactly correct. In many cases a built car wasn't at the level of a bought car. But the made it level up by working on it using their own intellect and hard work. The bought car, they paid a professional team to do all that for them.
@kindsteel57 ай бұрын
@@jimmyboy131 Wrong, Bought Cars are meant to be…. Cars. They go on Highways at sixty miles an hour. Now certain cars like Mustangs are meant to go fast, but they’re meant mainly to drive places. A built car has one purpose. Racing. Bought cars have restrictions like trying not to go under ten miles a gallon, and trying not to break down after 50k miles.
@jimmyboy1317 ай бұрын
@@kindsteel5 A built car can be a race only car, but that's not what I'm thinking of. I'm thinking of a driving car that has been modified for greater performance.

In 1996, Herbie, the powerful beetle, completely outperformed a 1966 Ford Mustang. While a Mustang would finish the quarter mile in 12.4 seconds, Mr. Herbert, the super beetle, was consistently running in the mid-9 second range.

I don't get it. It's not even about Built vs Bought. All these cars are running against themselves. If you had a 20 second car, nailed the light every time and came in right on the 20 second mark. You would be the race winner, every single time. It's not about the car, it's about the driver.

Cars that are built by the person themselves is where the saying originated from. Taking X vehicle to any performance shop with mods you bought online is no better or worse than buying a new performance vehicle off the lot at a dealer.

First race is exactly what I rember my buddies GN launched off the boost. Felt like raw power tweaking the chassis and the rear axle trying to pass the car. One of the wildest rides I have been in on the street and I don't mean straight lines.

For a daily driver that you can also take to the drag strip, bought is better. But building one up gives you that much more pride in what you drive not to mention the money you can save for the same amount of fun
