People had a similar sentiment in 1938 when they heard that MGM was making a movie musical of _Wizard_ -- and NOT using the music from the phenomenally successful Broadway version of the story that had taken the country by storm in the first decade of the 20th century. It was still fresh in a lot of people's minds. Also, the original actor who played the Scarecrow in that show, Fred Stone, was still alive, and his fans thought it was scandalous that MGM had not asked him to play that part in the movie. If there ever is another movie of _Wizard,_ I would want it to be a straight adaptation of the book, with the characters as the whole world first knew them. 🙂
