Late answer, but I think it comes down to a few things. -They are having fun -They don't take themselves overly serious -Every music video has boat loads of personality through the 'imperfect' quality -Their videos stand in contrast to the bland, perfectly servicable, high production value, inoffensive sludge of mainstream pop music videos that come a dime a dozen
