I visited NOLA a few weeks ago (two days before the terrorist attack). Walking around the French Quarter, I realized I was standing in this exact spot where this video was filmed. A video I have watched so many times for over four years. I unfortunately missed the opportunity to see Tuba Skinny perform as my travel times didn't align with their performance on Saturday night. However, I did have the pleasure of watching Doreen Ketchens perform on this very corner! It was an amazing moment. Visiting New Orleans just for one afternoon is an experience you won't regret.

Shay is my hero...I was a music teacher and a trumpet player...there is a certain artistry and tone quality she adheres to that modern screamin' high note players just don't have. She really knows her stuff with the right interpretation, tempos and style, as does the whole band. Tuba Skinny has the same artistry and quality from the brass to the strings, as when Erica [the bass drum player] does vocals, and right down to the washboard and bass drum. They really should tour the schools, especially elementary and middle schools and show kids what real music artistry is, not the junk the music industry forces down their throat electronically [that includes my boomer generation etc.]. I guarantee Tuba Skinny could change their world and the way they think about music, and have dancing in the aisles at the same time. They should be on the top of the list of music education grants of the highest level. They are the right band to do it. Tuba Skinny making it modern and accessible to today's kids.

I believe this is Dixieland Jazz. I've studied all types of music for many years, but I never appreciated this genre until I heard these guys/gal(s). Thanks TS.

I haven't seen anyone as happy and content with playing the coronet since Satchmo. The look of satisfaction and joy is written all over Shaye's face. She doesn't even have to smile to share her internal joy.

Fabuleux! Merci!

4 horns, 3 strings a washboard and a drum. You just can´t go wrong with that lineup;-) I could not have walked by, even if I was late for a hot date. What a sweet swinging energy.
