Anneke is a great frontwoman and was a huge influence on Floor choosing to be a metal singer. She is the spiritual mother and influence of so many Dutch female metal singers plus others. Another of Arjen's chosen singers.

Thank you for this immaculate breakdown of the song. TG25 stands for The Gathering 25 (years), and the "background singers" at the end were actually the current lead vocalist and the lead vocalists before Anneke. Also, I personally get a feeling of Pink Floyd vibes from this song. And finally, it's an hommage to Mozart.

The Gathering are one of many superb Dutch bands who haven't got nearly the worldwide acclaim they deserve . Ever since I first heard Focus ( one of the MOST innovative bands in what was a VERY innovative period in popular music ) live over 50 years ago I've been a fan of the music scene in the Netherlands from Focus & Golden Earring in the 70s through Candy Dulfer ( one of the world's great saxophonists ) in the 80s + The Gathering in the 90s & 00s right up to Ayreon and Epica . Some of the best vocalists on the planet and most exciting bands come from Holland ( and very often nobody knows ! ) because where they're from is lost as they tend to sing in English . Dutch music is well worth checking out !

I call this "melancholy metal." Anneke comes to us from the same province in the Netherlands as Floor. Must something in the water. Young Anneke was known at the "Tinker Bell of Metal" in the mid 90s. She was a young, fresh faced, red head. And it seemed like the whole metal world had a crush on her. She had returned for this TG25 reunion show. She had left the band ~10 years earlier. Speaking of Massive Attack I love what Tracy Thorn added to several of their songs. And of course EBTG was great. She is one of my top 10 favorite female vocalists.

@David Hill I have one small correction. Anneke is a natural blonde and had her natural blonde haircolor in those days. She still does now actually. She started occasionally dying her hair red or black years later in the 2000s. And the term Tinker Bell was coined I believe by Devin Townsend years later when he asked her as co singer on some of his albums. The reason for his endearing name for her is obvious: she is so pretty and innocent looking and she literally looks like Tinker Bell from the fairy tale.

Anneke, yes! Please do the lyric video later in private of this song... close your eyes and drift away on the instrumental middel part. It doesn't really come out in the live version.

Yes, what a nice present for today, I knew you'd love it! Hard to believe this was a fan-made video. I always wake up with a nightwish song in my head (call me a fan), but this song and its sibling Waking Hour are two of few songs that managed to supplant that for a couple of weeks after I discovered them. Ps, 'Doornroosje' is 'Sleeping beauty' in Dutch, it's a podium in the somewhat sleepy university city of Nijmegen. Born there in the 60's, I plan to move back there when I grow up 😁

The album was "How to measure a planet". I was lucky enough to see The Gathering with Anneke 3 times throughout the 90s and early 2000s, and she was basically Floor before her time - we all were totally mesmerized... The Gathering was so influential before their time... I suggest kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWGbdKNnfb6Md6c to see what they really feel like, stripped down to the pure music

I Love Anneke ,her voice her beautiful Smile. Hi Eric She also performs this song with an Orchestra. You should react to her singing Strange Machines at Pink Pop. Strange Machines is the song Floor decided she wanted to do metal . The song is about Mozart. FYI she has a acoustic album out and I think it's been at least 3years. You should check out her on Beste Zangers last year

@Christina Algate I concur. Travel is about Mozart (not Strange Machines). The way you wrote it is was not that clear. And I concur As long as it's the legendary live version from Pinkpop :) where we see Anneke as a young girl. I must say that Anneke made quite an impression on me as a Dutch teenager in the mid nineties :)

If Floor is the metal Goddess, then Anneke must be the Grandmother Goddess of metal. Still looking fantastic by the way. Metal keeps you young it seems. I hope one day there will be a "tribute to the Goddesses" concert starring Anneke, Floor, Simone, Sharon, Marcella and whom I might not know of, no pun intended by leaving your name out. It's my ignorence. A feast of glory to the human female voice. Including 90's vibe and modern techniques . Maybe Arjen Lucassen should make that happen. He for sure is able to. Let's include the Dutch Metropole orchestra to that feast. Can I reserve tickets already? Even if it is held on Nova Zembla I would go there. "I have a dream", a famous person said in the past. Well, I've got a dream too.....

I think he already saw The Gentle Storm, even if he didn't make a reaction video of it. He referred to it as a performance wherein he was particularly impressed by the drummer Ed Warby whom he recognised again in Ayreon's The Day That The World Breaks Down.

Anneke van Giersbergen - Somewhere? For me, there are three songs with the best Dutch vocalisten: Ayreon - Valley of the Queens. Within Temptation ft. Anneke van Giersbergen - Somewhere. After Forever ft. Sharon den Adel - Beyond me. For the last one, there isn't any live footage, sadly.
